The Youth Policy Dialogue was the opportunity for young people to engage with Commissioner Christophe Hansen and share their views on the future of the agri-food sector, rural areas, and their policies. The selected participants are active in various agricultural, rural, and environmental youth organisations. This Youth Policy Dialogue was centred around the theme of “Building together the future of farming, food and rural areas”. The Dialogue touched on:
- young people’s priorities, including the economic viability of the sector,
- sustainability of the food system, and
- generational renewal in farming and rural areas.
It took place alongside the EU Agri-Food Days 2024, the flagship event of the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural development. These exchanges contributed to informing the forthcoming Vision for Agriculture and Food, to be presented in the first 100 days, as well as the strategy for generational renewal in agriculture.

Description
The EU Youth Policy Dialogue will help lay the foundations for a closer involvement of young people in the EU decision-making process as part of the framework of the EU Youth Strategy.
The Youth Policy Dialogue:
- Enables young people to express their views on policy initiatives.
- Fosters open discussions, the sharing of insights, and the building of connections with young people to make sure they can use their voice – their own voice – to help shape the future.
- Provides a space for direct and meaningful interaction with the Commissioners across the policy spectrum and hence support the mainstreaming of youth views in EU policy.
- Empowers young people by fostering their active engagement in democratic life, ensuring their voices are not only heard, but that they are also effectively equipped and motivated to be involved in the EU's decision-making process.
- Enables young people to better understand the choices behind policy decisions and their impact.
