Thank Goodness You're Here!

A Cheeky Comedy Slapformer

View
Bursting with creativity and absurdity, this comedic adventure dishes out non-stop laughs.

Your first challenge in Thank Goodness You’re Here sets the tone for this riotous adventure. Can you figure out how to leave your boss’s office to catch a bus?

Turns out there’s only one way: leap (safely) out of the 10th-floor window. Why not take the door? Because that wouldn’t be as funny!

The oddball citizens of Barnsworth could clearly use your help.

Funny is what Thank Goodness You’re Here is all about. Set in the fictitious town of Barnsworth in Northern England, this off-the-wall adventure dishes out endless bits, skits, gags and giggles.

Barnsworth may be small, but it brims with life – grumpy humans, didactic talking worms, singing rats. As you wander the town, you’ll help its citizens out of jams. (“Thank goodness you’re here!” turns out to be a common refrain.) When you meet a chap with his arm stuck in a sewer grate, for example, feel free to give him a slap of encouragement.

In fact, slap everything! Walking, jumping and slapping are how you interact with the world.

Slap a tree to get unsolicited advice from an owl. Slap the right pile of dirt and a mole might invite you down his hole to meet his family. And, yes, slap people to get their attention. It can be a bit off-colour (sausage casing plays a prominent role in one gag), but you can’t have slapstick without the slap.

Thank Goodness You’re Here revels in absurdity, and we’ve never played anything quite like it. Whenever we needed a good chuckle, all we could think was: thank goodness it’s here!

Quick tip

Be sure to revisit businesses such as the uniquely punctuated Nick’s Brick’s and the deceptively delicious Mother Megg’s Buttery Goods. New gags crop up each time you drop by.

Fun fact

Dialogue that might sound like gibberish could actually be the hyperlocal slang of Barnsley, England, the town on which Barnsworth is based. The two creators of Thank Goodness You're Here, Will Todd and James Carbutt, grew up in Barnsley and wove in local references throughout the game.

Meet the creator

Thank Goodness You’re Here is the second game from Yorkshire-based studio Coal Supper. They also released the surreal adventure The Good Time Garden.
