Timeliness of Updates

TransUnion is exceedingly slow updating my accounts. I refinanced my mortgage 6 weeks ago; the old loan has been repaid and closed on the Experian site since two Weeks after the refinance. TransUnion has had both loans outstanding on my account for 3 or 4 weeks and still maintains both loans. So my outstanding debt appears to be twice what the actual amount is. I would love to see the account balances updated timely. Another week has passed and still no update.

That review was written two years ago.

Since then, TransUnion is perennially slow updating balances compared to other credit reporting agencies, and when the credit score changes on the site, there are no explanations.

If one inquires about reasons for the score, the generic explanations from a template don’t make sense. My credit score on the other credit reporting site has been 850 for a long time, and it’s been much lower than that on TransUnion (832) for a similar amount of time. The explanation is that there are too many accounts with balances. I pay my credit cards in full every month, except for any amounts that are pending and get posted the night the statement period closes, which provides no time to get them paid before the statement cutoff (usually less than $100, but sometimes more). Clearly not a reason for a lower score. TransUnion is a palpably worse credit reporting site than the other one.

The worst of the credit agencies

Google “Transunion data breach” they are currently being sued in a class action lawsuit (Bryant v. Trans Union LLC) for failing to properly secure the names, addresses, drivers license numbers, social security numbers and financial account numbers of 200 Million US citizens that were lost in a data breach. Their services are slow everything from the website to getting emails and good luck trying to correct the misinformation that they themselves caused to be on your credit record. If you don’t login to the website for an extended period when you try to login you will receive a message telling you incorrect password even though you know for certain you entered the correct password since it is stored in an encrypted file along with the last date you authenticated on their website using that password but hey I guess it’s easier to tell the customer they are an idiot than simply say they are requiring you to change your password. Try going to the website and setting a 15+ digit password and you’ll find out their own app won’t let you login with a 15+ digit password but their website happily will.

Wasting your money

I’m a person who has impeccably flawless credit. I have never been late on a payment. Everything I pay is on auto pay so I never see a bill. I’ve had my American Express platinum card with no spending limit for 33 years. I have a $4 million apartment in Miami a $5 million home in Colorado, way over $10 million in the bank and I have a 740 point fico score with Transunion. Hah! They have no idea what accounts I have whether it be utilities, communications etc. I am very blessed to be where I am at this point in my life so it’s disheartening to have a company like this give an impression of you that is totally false.
In today’s business claimant whether it be because of Covid or a myriad of different things, if you do business in Europe for example, they look at your credit score. It’s the only barometer they can use to make sure that you are a responsible standup human being. In essence, Trans Union has hurt me and my ability to do business in many ways. I guess the only smart thing to do with this is just stop the membership.
I bet they’ll call me then……….
Very disappointed
