With Tap to Pay on iPhone and a supported payment app, you can accept all types of in-person, contactless payments right on your iPhone—including physical debit and credit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets—with no extra terminals, readers, or hardware needed. It’s easy, secure, and private. Here’s how it works:

1. Open the payment app on your iPhone, and enter the purchase amount.
2. Present your iPhone to the customer.
3. Your customer holds their card horizontally or their device at the top of your iPhone and over the contactless symbol for a few seconds.
4. When you see the Done checkmark, the card read is complete and the transaction is being processed.

Tap to Pay on iPhone uses the built-in security and privacy features of iPhone to help protect your business and customer data. When a payment is processed, Apple doesn’t store card numbers on iPhone or on Apple servers. Merchants and customers can rest assured that their data stays theirs.

PIN transaction protection

Transactions that require PIN entry will automatically prompt a PIN entry screen when using Tap to Pay on iPhone. When that screen appears, Tap to Pay on iPhone is designed to prevent apps in the background from reading sensors that could give away any part of the PIN.
