I had a scheduled call to discuss their services. I admit to not feeling well, recovering from surgery, but wanted to know what services they offered. The rep seemed interested and knowledgeable about the services I offered and asked things about my coverage area and goals. Rather than continuing to ask questions or provide information on how their services could help me, I was taken down a path of building up my business to sell it off when I planned on retiring in 18-24 months. I was hoping maybe I could find a lead source generator to allow me to book another 10-15 clients each year for the next 18-24 months. I don't need a ton more volume. I run a very small business and don't need to double or triple my volume, this close to retirement. After mentioning to me that they offer services in the low end of $250-$300 per month, I indicated I didn't foresee me needing to invest that much for the return I was seeking. Basically, it would be spending $3000-$3600/yr to generate my goal of maybe $20,000-$30,000 additional income. The ROI just didn't hit where I needed it. After sharing where I was, in regards to marketing budget allocation, and that I didn't want to spend more than $100-$200/mo, I awaited a response from the sales rep. After about 15 seconds silence, all I heard was beep-beep-beep, where he hung up on me. There was no "Maybe this isn't a good fit for your business model. Thanks for your time. If we can be of service in the future, let us know". Just a cold END by hanging up on me. I'm big on customer service. I often get calls for my business where my fee exceeds what the prospect is willing to spend. I still share how I can help them with my services, treat them with respect, and maybe even try to find them a peer service provider who might offer something that matches their budget or advise them on ways to make a better decision for booking services I offer with another provider, but I never discount them as a prospect nor treat them in a disrespectful manner, hoping that one day they might come back to me for the level of service I provide and have adjusted their budget to accommodate my services.
