Do not invest money with cibc. My husband died suddenly last year, I had the death certificate, his will and power of attorney. Because the amount in the account, which was in his name, came to over $50,000 the bank is insisting that I have to spend money and have probate as well, before they will release any of our money to me. There is myself and our son, no one is contesting anything………..Nita

Scammed me into Credit card. Credit card never arrived, not activated or used. two years later realized my credit score is dropping because I have payment due.

Also for mortgage approval. worst exp
erience of my life, they never respond to your emails , ever. when you ask them to redirect to manager than they play sweet and you expect response same day. They wasted my 4 months just to approve mortgage and still didn't do it. I had to go to another bank.

Lure you in with promotions that never materialize. Costco gift card hasn’t arrived almost a year after opening the chequing account and transferring monthly direct debits as per criteria. Transferred my TFSA AND RRSP accounts from another bank with the 100 free trades promotion. The promotion wasn’t applied to the accounts and I’ve called three times to try and resolve it and it still doesn’t get done. This company is a large scale scam operation. Trust me, avoid them and do not get suckered in like I did.

CIBC don't bank here unless you want to be ripped off and treated like crap - even as an employee.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with CIBC has been nothing short of a nightmare following the passing of my Mom. Despite her being a former CIBC employee, the lack of empathy, professionalism, and clear communication from the Port Coquitlam branch has made an already difficult time exponentially worse.

Unhelpful and Unprofessional Staff:

- Three weeks after my Mom's passing, I attended an appointment with Joyce Lam at the PoCo branch. I provided the will, power of attorney, and death certificate, only to be met with, “I don’t know,” when I asked for a breakdown of services and account details. She outright refused to give me any information.
- The branch manager, Sadaf Kohistani, was dismissive and rude, demonstrating zero customer service skills and no compassion during such a sensitive time.

Conflicting and Confusing Information:

- Despite all accounts being joint, I was told probate is required. Other banks, don’t require probate in similar circumstances, which makes this even more baffling.
- There is debt protection on my late Mom's credit card, but after months, I still haven’t received clear information about how this applies or what steps are necessary to resolve it.

Poor Communication and Delays:

- I escalated the matter to CIBC’s estates department and have been waiting four months with no resolution. This is unacceptable and demonstrates a complete lack of urgency and care.
- I requested written explanations from CIBC’s probate office about why probate is required for joint accounts and from the Ombudsman to clarify this policy. To date, I’ve received nothing.

Due to the lack of support and timely follow-up, I have escalated this issue to Global News Media, who are now investigating on my behalf. I will also have my Dad move all of his accounts elsewhere, as this level of incompetence and disregard for customer service is unacceptable.

CIBC has turned a deeply personal and emotional process into an exhausting ordeal. I would not recommend banking here to anyone who values transparency, empathy, or basic professionalism.

I would have given it negative ratings

I would have given it negative ratings, but there's no option for that. I had to waste over hours to get a resolution for my credit card issue. Agents kept transferring me from one department to another and each time I had to wait over 40 mins. This is ridiculous. I have the screenshots of waiting for more than 1 hours every week!!!

WORST SERVICE

I would have given it negative ratings, but there's no option for that. I had to waste over hours to get a resolution for my credit card issue. Agents kept transferring me from one department to another and each time I had to wait over 40 mins. This is ridiculous. The call got disconnected in between and no one called me back. I had to call back again and start from the beginning.
Worst customer service experience ever.

Since Jennifer become the manager for…

Since Jennifer become the manager for this branch, the branch services is horrible. These are the things that people need to know about Jennifer and CIBC branches in Airdrie Alberta. I was at the teller in 2023. I was getting some personal business done at the branch on main in Airdrie. I was speaking to the teller and she looked at her computer and she said "Oh Jennifer said and she continued to tell me what Jennifer told her to tell me" I asked why is Jennifer listening into my conversation at the front when she is sitting in a back office in the back. She spies on people in the branch when you are speaking to the teller she hear you and tell the teller what to tell you. She invade in people's privacy. My husband was trying to get a copy of a draft from CIBC in Airdrie. The draft was for $104,000 dollars it took the back office almost two months for them to find the copy of the draft. Janice Keys promised my husband that she will have the draft in a few business days, it never happened. Jennifer promise the same thing and it never happened. Liars!decievers! My husband and I went to the other CIBC where Cindy Pearson was the manager, I spoke to Cindy and I recorded a video of her behaviour. She was yelling at me and refused to help us. She did not wanted to contact her back office in Toronto to find the draft. She was threatening me and screaming at me, her spit was spewing in my face, chasing us out of the branch. I recorded it all for everyone to see how these people don't take responsibility for their own actions when they deceived their customers. I notice everytime I wrote a review they takes it down. These people are evil. Cindy Pearson and Jennifer from hell. Take your business else where. There are many other different banks every where to bank with.

I listened to elevator music for an hour waiting to talk to someone about a credit card application. Finally hung up. Want to cancel my Costco Cr Card application but keep getting these infernal emails which I have to set up an acct to get details. I DON'T WANT TO CREATE AN ACCT NOR DO I WANT YOUR CRUMMY CREDIT CARD. I JUST WANT TO SPEAK TO A HUMAN AND CANCEL THIS MESS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 3 MONTHS.

Do not do business with this bank. Zero Stars rating.

I was trying to cancel my credit card on phone and called 1-800-465-4653. After 1/2 hour I was answered only to go through the routine and be told I needed to be transferred to another who could close the account. This required another 1/2 hour wait anthen they could do nothing but transfer me again. After 15 minutes a third person answered, asked my name, what card I was inquiring about and then hung up on me. In the meanwhile a phone number showed up on my phone. 1-888-337-2422. An inquiry online showed this number to be reported in a number of scams using CIBC. I have never had a CIBC scam call in the past.
This experience is additional to the last attempt in the previous week which only resulted in 2 hours of wasted time.

Nobody knows what they are doing

My credit card was compromised 5 weeks ago. They put a new one in my apple wallet right away without calling me or telling me so of course then I thought my phone was hacked! I called them about it and they confirmed that they are the ones that did that because of the postal strike.
They said that I could use that one until my new card arrived. I had some very embarrassing moments at Costco when my transaction would not go through over a certain amount thanks to the Wallet card so then that card got cancelled. They never told me the amount that it was good for in the wallet. I am glad they are cautious and protecting me, but it was very frustrating. They told me they didn’t know when my card would arrive due to the strike so I asked them to send it to my local branch which they agreed to. They said it should be there in 10 days or less. Fast-forward to five weeks later ….every time I tried to follow up to find out where the card was I got a different story and usually a person with a language barrier which adds frustration on both of our ends. I had bills coming out from that card and payments I needed to make and I lost thousands of dollars in points because I could not Christmas shop with that card. I kept calling the branch it wasn’t there. I kept calling CIBC and they didn’t know where it was either. They just kept saying it’s due to the strike, but meanwhile they sent it by UPS so that did not make sense to me. I finally spoke with a person after the holidays and she said she could send me a card within two days. I said why the F did we not do this five weeks ago and she said I don’t know.
🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😡😡😡😡
I was rude to that person, but I told her not to take it personally because I was angry with the company beyond frustrated and so angry that I lost all those points. The person on the phone told me I had to be here all day at home to sign for this card. Meanwhile, when Purolator guy showed up, he waved at me and walked away, so I did not have to take a day off work to be here for the card. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, obviously with CIBC and I’m quite nervous to carry on with them as a client or even use this s
new credit card because of how things were handled.
Extremely poor communication and customer service.
One person I spoke to you said she is going to put in dis satisfied service complaint but that was over a week ago and all I’ve heard is that my complaint has been activated so God knows how long this will take to get sorted!!! 🤦‍♀️😡

Not satisfied I will never send my children or family to cibc on portage road.I was disgusted in with the customer service with her.

Caution: Bait and Switch

The bank offers a no fees (for two years) bank account to newcomers. This is what they promote. However, this is a bait and switch game. I was told my permanent resident card didn't have the residency requirement they wanted. I have been in Canada less than a week. I don't know how you can get any more new than that. It shouldn't be legal to call this a "newcomer" promotion if it isn't offered to all newcomers. This is a scam to attract immigrants to the bank and then sell them on other products.

There is no -10 option to give them in ratings. I past few weeks i have spent around 9 hrs calling them and put on waiting to talk to any mortgage renewal team. greatly disappointing service/ bank/ team. i was on hold/ waiting for more than 2 hrs 15 min and then the phone call got disconnected. i over the email , when the agent was replying to my query, the balance he referred to me was fee 1000 & more than what is should on my account, so no clue where he is bring it up and when i requested to call him, he is not available to talk for next 3 days. another agent i send him email. he is reply after 4 days that he will get back to me after his vacation. as if there is no other person to handle his business in his absence?? I had back n forth more than 12 email. but he is not willing to talk over the phone to clarify the bank statements.
Horrible service, Terrible experience, outstandingly irresponsible.
these ppl have no clue on how to deal with clients
