Do not invest money with cibc. My husband died suddenly last year, I had the death certificate, his will and power of attorney. Because the amount in the account, which was in his name, came to over $50,000 the bank is insisting that I have to spend money and have probate as well, before they will release any of our money to me. There is myself and our son, no one is contesting anything………..Nita

Scammed me into Credit card. Credit card never arrived, not activated or used. two years later realized my credit score is dropping because I have payment due.
Also for mortgage approval. worst experience of my life, they never respond to your emails , ever. when you ask them to redirect to manager than they play sweet and you expect response same day. They wasted my 4 months just to approve mortgage and still didn't do it. I had to go to another bank.
0 would be more appropriate I cancelled everything with them
And I’m still getting email communications. A disgruntled ex-client I just had to spend an hour on the phone with them and I closed everything 3 years ago I’m still getting emails about credit card statements but I shouldn’t even have an account - the WORST.
Lure you in with promotions that never materialize. Costco gift card hasn’t arrived almost a year after opening the chequing account and transferring monthly direct debits as per criteria. Transferred my TFSA AND RRSP accounts from another bank with the 100 free trades promotion. The promotion wasn’t applied to the accounts and I’ve called three times to try and resolve it and it still doesn’t get done. This company is a large scale scam operation. Trust me, avoid them and do not get suckered in like I did.
What an absolute nightmare it has been…
What an absolute nightmare it has been to try to work with CIBC on closing out accounts in the estates of my mother and grandmother, whom both passed away early this year within 3 weeks of each other. CIBC has shown ZERO compassion or competence in handling what should be a very simple estate. They have failed to follow very clear instructions from the estate administrator and have cost all of us time, money and wasted energy through multiple trips to the Walden branch in Calgary during which they have been dismissive, blaming and basically of no use to anyone. The loss of loved ones is painful enough without the added stress of trying to deal with financial matters through an organization that seems to be absolutely inept in the areas of estates and customer service.

I recently had a very poor experience…
I recently had a very poor experience with CIBC regarding a mortgage transfer. The mortgage specialist was very dismissive, inattentive and despite being given months to prepare for transfer was somehow still late and lacking the documents needed. I had complained to Customer Care Centre who was in turn rude to me when I asked how they were following up with my complaint. I am shocked at how poor CIBC's customer service is.

WORST BANK EVER
WORST BANK EVER. Have LOTS of money with them and they won't even waive the yearly fee for the credit card. So i downgraded to a basic credit card with no yearly fee, and they immediately change the billing date to the DAY OF the downgrade, and CHARGE PAYMENT INTEREST. Tried to transfer money to my mom and they LOCKED MY ACCOUNT because of suspected fraudulent activities. Ended up spending hours on the phone and hours in the branch because nobody seems to be able to help and all they could do is transfer me to another agent and another and another... One time they even hung up on me/disconnected the call. Sign up with CIBC only if you have all the time in the world to be dicked around by this so called bank

Honestly cibc is the worst bank I’ve…
Honestly cibc is the worst bank I’ve been with them for years and the charges are ridiculous , I got like a. 70$ charge of all different charges...the bank is to hold your money not take your money and charge you a million things . I’m still with cibc but I will be changing son to a better one . I’ve had worst experience with cibc just no point talking about it because what’s done is done and now it’s time to just move on and change banks . I don’t recommend this bank to anyone .

Worst bank I’ve been with
I was on a working holiday visa in canada and the biggest mistake I made when there was using this bank. I lost my bank card and they shut off all access to my account until I went to a branch. No one told me they were going to do that until after it was done. So I couldn’t even try to transfer money into another account. I was living in a remote area so it took me a while to be able to get out to a branch during which time I was left with no money. Also near the end of my time in Canada tried to transfer money to another account and once again they shut off all access to my account until I went to a branch and of course it was a Sunday so half the branches were closed. $70 dollars on a taxi later and I had withdrawn all my money so I didn’t have to deal with them again. Terrible customer service and they don’t communicate well with you at all.

Online banking malfunctioning
Online Banking is down 9 out of 10 times. With some luck, I can get online in the mornings. There's no chance to get anywhere in the afternoon, calling in doesn't work either, since the lines are overloaded. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. Tried all different search engines and browsers.

Terrible cusomter service
Terrible cusomter service, misleading representatives. Getting a mortgage with this entity was the biggest mistake of my adult life. CIBC did nothing to correct their mistakes / errors.
Online access is often inaccurate - out of date even though it is supposed to show live balances.

I wish there was a choice to give zero…
I wish there was a choice to give a zero star. After sticking to cibc for years they decreased my credit card limit from $16500 to $8000. Reason i did not used more than $7000 in past six months. If math is done correctly I would I owed them close to my limit if I did minimum payments only every month. Now they asking me to make huge payment to bring the amount owing down since I told them it is affecting my credit ratio. On top of that their customer service is pathetic. Managers and reps need to be trained by RBC staff. Bye bye CIBC

Telephone banking means being on hold…
Telephone banking means being on hold forever... that, after the system doesn't understand the numbers it asks for. The staff is always friendly when you do get through, but it's a painful process to get to a human voice.

We are customers over years but looking already to switch!
We are customers for over 20 years with this bank. But to say it honestly, this bank is a workplace for people you can’t use in other jobs! Why? Wife got 2 fraudulent cheques who looked like Canadiantire money and also it was confirmed that they are good, bounced couple days later. I’m shortening the story. Overdraft $1,200! Okay I am honest and like to pay what isn’t ours. “Sorry your wife has to pay it not her husband.” After talking to the manager. I’m standing in front of the teller with 1st debit card. She tells me to get $1,200 cash. Lining up a second time. “No. Sorry! Canadian privacy’s act .... Your wife has to come in...” After trying 3 branches, I’m told 3 different stories why a husband can’t pay money into his wife’s bank account. (Should I mention that I did not tried to take money out??) Okay. Thought I’m smarter. Downloading the APP on my wife’s phone. Use etransfer and send her the money. She’s accepting the money- and can’t put it on the account. She calls in. “Sorry! You have to show up and pay cash in one of our branches. But your husband can do it too...”. Seriously now?! What I hope for the future? Tear down all this buildings! Fire all staff! Nobody needs useless people and buildings with online banking! If CIBC would accept money from husbands!

Ive been banking with CIBC since I was a child, I now have a line of credit, visa, mortgage, TFSA, RRSP and do all of my banking solely through them. Im currently trying to sell my house as I lost my job due to the downturn in the oil industry. My prospective buyer would like to assume my mortgage but cant seem to get ahold of anyone at this branch after spending an entire day calling and leaving voicemails. I can attest to this because I left multiple voicemails and phone calls on the general line last week (6+ times STILL NO RETURNED CALL) I had to call the call center in order to book an appointment which this branch was 30 minutes late to. I went to the bank today to speak with the manager as I am at the end of my rope and will be expected to pay mortgage payout penalty since they have failed to answer the buyers calls so he plans to go with another financial institute to get finances. When I spoke with the bank manager he was extremely unprofessional and didnt care if I stayed with them or went to another bank. Chibuke Chinaka (manager) asked what he could do to help I asked him to contact the buyer and he refused to do so and said he doesnt call anyone, they call him (power trip) and claimed me leaving CIBC and going to another bank was a threat, wrong - its now a promise and thats on him now. I'll be reaching out to the district manager Andrea Willows and canceling everything with CIBC once the house sells, ill also personally see to it that my family members who have mortgages with CIBC switch to Scotia/BMO/TD at the end of their terms. Again not a threat, a promise.
conclusion: they will gladly take your money but when you need them at the worst point in your life they will cast you aside as if you don't matter. At the end of the day your just a number and all they give a crap about is the money you put in THEIR pockets.
Anyone from CIBC (other than Chibuke Chinaka) feel free to reach out to me, i'll gladly remove this post and many other ive made, if you rectify this situation. If i could I'd give this branch (6150 28ave nw edmonton, AB) a -5 stars I would.

Bank here if you like being treated like poo on a shoe.
When I opened my account about one year ago, I was not treated with the respect or courtesy you would expect being a potential or new customer. Things got worse as the year progressed. I was miss sold payment protector insurance on my credit card as I was not informed, only I noticed extra random charges months later. I felt pressured into opening another account at the time I applied for the credit card. My credit limit was increased to random amounts without my authorization and staff in the Bankers Hall, Calgary branch were not friendly or helpful. When I wanted to close my accounts in Bankers Hall branch, after queuing for over five minutes, I was sent downstairs where I was told I had to go back upstairs to the same person that sent me down. I had my TFSA closed and was told my credit card and checking accounts would be closed when the balances were $0.00. This was not the case. I had to call the bank, to be told that I had to call the credit card company to do that. I forgot to cancel my Netflix so they tried, and succeeded, to withdraw the payment from my checking account, even though it should have been closed. Because of this, I was using my over draft, which I explicitly asked not to have when opening the account, meaning I was charged another $5 for using it. I had to go back to Bankers Hall to have this fixed and stand over them as they closed my account once and for all. I was also insulted my the teller by saying I was from London, just because English was my first language and I had a non North American accent. Basically me saying that a Canadian is from the States. If you want to know where someone is from, don't assume! I just want my accounts closed at this terrible shambles of a bank that does not treat their customers with respect.

I recieved 2 fraudulent online charges …
I recieved 2 fraudulent online charges against my bank account. Within a week .. the first charge was refunded within 2 buisness days and my card was cancelled. Once I went into the bank and got a new card 4 days later the 2nd fraudulent charge went through. I do not know how they allowed that to go through a cancelled card (as the said it was against the old card). This second charge happened on a Friday and by Tuesday I still did not get my money back... I called Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and each day they told me it would be back by end of day.. Thursday I recieved a message that it will be there by end of day tomorrow Friday Dec 22... with Holidays fast approaching, Dec 22 is the last buisness day before holidays... When I went into the bank, They told me they couldn't do anything... I am very angry and disappointed! Seriously considering changing banks...

Worst experience ever
Worst experience ever. CMO is not a user friendly site and can't pay even the Federal Govt on it. CIBC support can;t speak English and is totally useless. on hold for an hour and still could not help. They don;t even know their system. Better to go elsewhere for your company banking business.

I've had so many issues with CIBC and …
I've had so many issues with CIBC and i've only had an account with them since June. From being given the run around from people who don't know what they're actually talking about, to having my account frozen multiple times for my own transactions being keyed as "fraud" to the current situation, where my account is UNAVAILABLE because of something I had double checked with to ensure it would be okay prior to this happening. The staff is always friendly - that's not an issue. The issue is that 1 in 3 people who've helped me have been wrong about very important things. The whole experience has been a headache.

Go to RBC
When I moved to Canada I started an account with RBC - when I visited CIBC a few months later a nice customer service rep offered me free banking for 12 months to move across to their bank, stupidly I did! Very stupidly, they have been nothing but hassle since I moved, from taking 4 months to process one credit card application, ignoring my emails and calls and now I've gone back to the UK for a while I've since learned they don't offer wire transfers online like any other bank, meaning my money is stuck in Canada unless I swallow the transfer fee that CIBC are trying to charge, I'd go back to RBC in a heartbeat and would never reccommend CIBC to anyone.
