I am extremely disappointed with the product I paid for - 10 days of unlimited internet in Japan. They never sent me the email with the order number, so I cannot claim a complaint. I spent 2 hours in Haneda airport trying to activate the e-sim without any success. There was no counter of the company to help, I had no way to call customer service and spent 110$ trying to call from my primary provider. Now I can not place a request for a refund without the order number and no way to connect in any way to this company. So after all I bought a more expensive product from Ninja WIFI and used it successfully. Do not use this company's service it is terrible.

We rented a pocket wi fi. We picked it up at the first hotel booked and it was complete with everything. Cables and power banks. We had connection everywhere we stayed. Four of us used it for more than 8 hours a day. Impeccable service.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

We ordered the pocket WiFi to be collected from T3 at Heneda on arrival, which worked really well. The device worked immediately and over the following three weeks was flawless. It supported three devices for all our needs throughout our travels from Tokyo to Hiroshima and into the Alps around Takayama. While a battery pack was provided as part of the package, this was never needed as the pocket WiFi lasted a full day with ease and we recharged each night. We returned the device using the prepaid envelope at the airport and received confirmation of receipt the following day. Thoroughly recommend.

Perfect coverage, long battery life, with life to spare after a whole day of people using.
We got the top speed which was affordable. No issues. Will be renting their pocket wifi again in the future

Our 2nd time using Japan-Wireless

2nd time we have used Japan-Wireless portable Wi-Fi. A most efficient delivery service to your point of collection (our case Haneda Airport). Communication between us was excellent. The unit performed superbly and never let us down for the 3weeks.Back up power supplied with leads and charger was supplied but was not required even after a whole days use. Return was simple. A most reliable service and will be using Japan-Wireless again and again as we have family in Japan. We are from the UK and without doubt recommend this system.

Perfect Low-Budget Option for prepaid sim

I really don't get all the negatvie reviews.
I had a prepaid SiM with unlimited data for 30 days and everything went perfect. Keep in mind, 4,000 yen for such an offer is cheaper than any other provider!
I think most people just don't read the instructions given carefully enough, leading to misunderstandings.
I picked my sim up at Narita Airport and i went to the wrong counter at first, but the staff was very helpful and told me where to go. When you activate the sim, it's very important to remove your own sim first (don't forget to save contacts and chats) and to change the settings of your phone just like you are told
I had a great experience with this sim - one month of unlimited data and solid connection for such a cheap price. To be honest, i never used more than 1GB per day, so i can't tell you what happens if your connection slows down like the provider tells
Summing it up, this is the perfect low-budget choice for anyone who just needs the phone for stuff like Google Maps or Translation Apps!

We ordered a mobile router for use on…

We ordered a mobile router for use on our trip to Japan. The system for pick up and return worked really well and we would have been literally lost without the mobile wifi link while finding our way around, particularly in some of the more remote locations.
We found the price competitive for unlimited data access. Overall very satisfied.

Fantastic pocket WiFi service in Japan

Hired the pocket WiFi for 2 weeks in Japan for 2 people who are heavy internet users
Very easy collection and set up. The device worked perfectly and only needed charging once per day. The battery lasted for a very busy day. Great internet connectivity everywhere we went. Definitely a must have device when in Japan. Had no issues and was a very easy return process.
Cannot highly recommend enough

Japan Wireless portable wifi

Japan Wireless portable wifi - 2 people / 2 weeks hire review.
Maybe it wasn't perfect but I'm still giving it a 5 out of 5 :)
Judging from my local network connection drops in the UK (city, seaside, field, wrong side of the building, etc.) Japan Wireless was only unreliable in caves, tunnels, or some really remote gorges in the mountains. Other than that it was covering all areas so that I never really needed to log into free wifi in the hotel or seek additional wifi in any public places.
The money the two of us spent for the two weeks (around £75 at the time) is well worth it and if the wifi box power goes down you have a back up in the form of the power bank (not top shelf but working nonetheless).
The box itself was holding the charge up between 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. max - only once or twice in that fortnight, probably with extreme use of WhatsApp, did we realise at 5 p.m. that there's only 5% power left...
Pick up in the departure lounge was meant to be easy but a dazed and confused traveller struggles finding the place, but someone will point you to the right place.
The drop off: (also in departure lounge) the post box is placed in the main area near the lifts and escalators, but when you put it all back into the envelope, make sure it is flat as mine was tangled up with the cable and I spent a bit of time shaking it up bit before it could fit in the large post box.
We had a fantastic trip, which was greatly helped by a reliable connection to wifi!!! And split between the two of us it's even cheaper per head and the use was not slowed down by games, uploads and searches.
If I ever manage to go back to Japan I'm gonna use it again :) THANK YOU Japan Wireless

Recommend pocket WiFi in Tokyo Kyoto and Osaka

Rented pocket WiFi in Narita Airport Tokyo. Pick up was easy. Returned from Osaka Airport at postbox. 3 or 4 people used it for Google maps and Travel advice and WhatsApp phone calls and messages for 10 days. Back up power bank was required on 2 or 3 days of 12 hour use. Very Happy with instructions and use. Economical for 2 or more persons. Definitely Recommended.

Scammers

I bought two eSIM’s as they say that if you have any problem with the set up they are 24/7 available and it took them 48 hours to answer me. At that moment I had bought another eSIM that worked perfectly without any set up need.
They didn’t want to refund the eSIM.
Please avoid this company.

Definitely a good experience for us!

When deciding which Pocket WiFi to book, we thought Japan Wireless was the best deal for us, but we were a little bit worried by the negative reviews here. After using it for more than two weeks, the possible explanation we gave ourself is that probably it's more likely for people to review if they had a bad experience than if they had a positive one.

Honestly, the device worked well all the time and we had a good coverage even in pretty remote areas. The only time we were offline was for a couple of hours on a train passing through the mountains in Wakayama Prefecture. No battery problems at all, the device worked easily till night while staying connected all day long, with a normal usage (maps, watching some videos and reading the news); just in a couple of days of 'heavy' usage, we had to charge it in the afternoon, but it granted us at least 10-12 hours even in that occasion with 4 devices connected the whole time.

We don't give 5 Stars because:

1) we subscribed the flat data plan and probably we never reached the 3GB daily threshold (that most providers set for the 'fair use policy') so we don't know if it's "really unlimited"

2) as counterintuitive it can be, we never had any need to contact the Costumer Service, so we don't know how responsive it is (and lot of reviews complained about that). But from our side, we can say that we received constantly automatic follow-ups via email on how to use the service, how to pick up and return the device and even about the return having been successful.

So, overall we were pretty happy with Japan Wireless and we felt that sharing our experience was the right thing to do!

Rented Pocket Wifi from Ninja

Rented Pocket Wifi from Ninja. Picked up at Haneda at arrival and returnposted when we left after 7 days.

Worked flawlessly all the time. Was 3 of us connected at all times and we used it 10-12 hours each day. When we returned to the hotel it usually had 15-20% left. Never had to use the powerbank that followed with.

Absolutely priceless…

Absolutely priceless for our two weeks travelling around Japan.
We collected from Ninja WiFi in Tokyo airport. A little difficult to find, so allow yourself time, but really efficient once we found them.
We had two devices (and found a 25 % discount code online) for our family of 4. They worked perfectly the whole time and made our lives so much easier.
By having two. we're able to split off and still be able to stay in touch.
The charge easily lasted a day and then we charged them overnight.
The return was easy too, but the return post box is BEFORE security, so find it immediately before or after you check your bags in.
Would absolutely use them again

Easy pick up at Handea AirPort

Easy pick up at Handea AirPort
I used a 4G modem - with an extra powerbank thats was included.
Good coverage with good speed.
Charge the modem first for best experience then use as a backup the Powerbank.

What can I say...I purchased a SIM car…

What can I say...I purchased a SIM car for tourist, the 30days version and 10GB. All the instructions were in Japanese only !! So, don't call this a data sim card for tourist ! I had to go in a starbuck cafe to use google lens and translate all the process step by step.
Result 2 hr wasted...
After the network is good and it works, so for this part, no problem.
Please understand people. We are just landing, you purchased a tourist data sim card and the instructions to set the APN are only in Japanese...But it is aimed for tourists ?!? Anyway, sometime logic is not the same everywhere.

Pocket wifi

I've ordered a pocket wifi. Everything ws there, but:

- cable didn't work, so I had to use my own cable
- power off after +/- 5 hours. Ok there is powerbank... which charges only for 2hours.

So: in case of emergency, you have wifi. But certainly not for the whole day!

Terrible company and dishonest

Esim didn't work even though I've never had a problem with other esims. Emailed Japan Wireless as that's the only way to contact them. No reply so after a few hours of having a phone not working I eventually had to buy from another company. When they did finally reply the customer service was useless and also said they cannot process a refund despite having sold me a product that didn't work. I'd avoid these guys and go with one of the other big providers. Oh and they sent me an email afterwards asking me to review. Gave them one star and surprise, surprise they haven't published it! Dishonest company in the extreme.
