The grand topper has made my sleep the best it has ever been. I travel a lot and stay at many of the top hotel properties from Four Season, Ritz Carlton ect. and my bed tops them all. Customer service is tip top and Darlie and crew are super reponsive. I will definitly purchase from Obasan again!

We’ve been sleeping long enough now on our Obasan mattress that I can leave a review. It’s wonderful. There is a reason these mattresses are used at the most luxurious hotels, like the Fogo Island Inn.

1. A financially conscious decision: This is the last mattress you will ever buy, so the cost comes out to far, far less than you would pay to keep replacing yours every 5-7 years (our last, very high end Serta which had a similar cost, lasted only 7 years). It is a component mattress. This means that inside the zip up mattress encasement are latex squares. When, for instance, the square at your hips begins to sag in about 10 years or so, you simply move one or both at your feet into that spot. When you need replacements, you only buy the replacement component at $250, not the whole bed.

2. An environmentally conscious decision: It’s made of organic cotton, wool, and latex. The wool is from Canadian sheep. There is no off-gassing. The feel is magnificent. Because of the component replacements, you are not creating more mattress waste every 5-7 years. The impact is less on you and the environment.

3. A comfort conscious decision: You set the components to your particular needs. I like a softer bed and am a side sleeper, so I have a soft component where my shoulders are and medium at the hips. If you want it even softer--while getting the proper support-- you can get a softer base layer on one side. My partner is a side sleeper, too, but likes a bed that is very firm. He has a medium at his shoulders and firm at his hips with a firm base. Then you can get a luxurious 2 or 4 inch latex and wool topper. Another benefit, because of the separate components and the way latex works, you do not wake as your partner moves during the night.

4. A customer care conscious decision: When you are interested, if you are not near a store, you do a zoom call and they walk you through everything. No hurry. When you take delivery, a team comes to the house with the bed and builds it for you and shows you how to turn over the components (the topper is turned every month. The components are turned every 6 months. They are lovely people and take their time with you. Afterwards, if you have any problems they will work with you until you are satisfied.

4a. It’s a small Canadian business that treats its employees well. They do have showrooms on the north east-coast of the US in all the big cities, but its main locations are here. I’m always here for small businesses making quality pieces that do not have to be thrown out.

In sum, this is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. The company is entirely reliable. I put it right up there with buying our Prius. Except the luxury. This is more like the Volvo of beds. If you need a new bed, you won’t come complaining to me if you buy it.

This was our third purchase with Obasan and our largest investment. We had purchased mattresses for our two girls starting at their toddler years. These mattresses are still incredibly comfortable! This year, we invested in a California King mattress with cover and pillows. WOW!! My husband and I were having sleep disturbances which have now been mitigated thanks to Obasan's quality material, fabrication and customized service. We highly recommend this investment. It makes such a difference in quality of life.

Very good quality. I love that it has some weight to it (as much as needed). Organic, natural fabrics/ filling. Can be used with any pillow and this is amazing for people like me who love their regular pillow. Easy to flip from one side to another over the night.
I did a lot of research before ordering as I was looking for something made from quality materials and I am very happy that I purchased this pregnancy pillow.

We had a very lovely shopping experience with John, the Showroom Manager, and bought their crib mattress. John was very helpful and flexible to accommodate our needs. The product is so well made and I am so happy that Ottawa has such an awesome brand to support. We will be back!

We are new owners of an Obasan Mattress, pillows, and duvets (winter and summer) for a few months now. We now have to set our alarm clock to make sure we do not sleep in (haha), it's been so easy. After owning many types of mattresses from Tempur-Pedic (Cool), Beautyrest, Dormeo that lived with us through several homes, we are pretty impressed with the Obasan Mattress system. The night sweats I would experience from the other mattresses, you could swim in the sweat (gross) but true, I would end up putting towels on the bed so I would have something dry to sleep on. My husband has a C-pap machine, even those so-called fancy pillows (cooling / memory foam) we would end of fighting with them to get comfortable. With our Obasan Mattress, we are not experiencing any aches from, nor have I suffered from bad night sweats as this mattress breathes and is all organic which I truly believe helps with your body temperature fluctuating. Also, working with the team at Obasan Ottawa has been exceptional. They know their product, we had a lot of questions, and they were available to phone, email, or drop in to their showroom. They worked with our designer to ensure it would work with our new bed frame. You can see where and how the mattresses are made from the showroom window. And you are trained on the function of getting the most out of your mattress. We are happy. Thank you Obasan and team.

My wife and I ordered an Obasan mattress for ourselves last year and it has been wonderful. The mattress is very comfortable and we appreciate it is GOTS and GOLS certified organic. We loved our mattress so much that we decided to get mattresses for our kids!

Customer service is unparalleled. Darlie John was incredibly helpful when we purchased our first mattress and was just as helpful with the purchase of the mattresses for our kids. He has also been quick to respond to any questions we have ever had.

These mattresses are SO comfortable. I love that you can customize each side depending on who's sleeping on what side and what their preferences are. I purchased one for my Airbnb and I get a lot of comments on how comfortable the mattress is from my guests. I also love that they are made right here in Canada.

I wanted to love this mattress, but after 1.5 years with it we are finally getting rid of it. It’s like sleeping on a rubber band (another user said the same) there’s no support, my hips sink in (on side, back, and stomach) and at the same time it creates a lot of pressure on your joints. I should note, I weigh 135 lbs so if it lacks support for me, I imagine it does most people. I’ve had terrible sleep and health issues from sleeping on this mattress. Almost daily headaches began when we started sleeping on this mattress… I’ve ordered so many pillows, tried all sorts of topper combinations, I’ve even been to physical therapy, not realizing the issue was with the mattress- headaches are gone instantly when I travel or sleep elsewhere. It makes me sick thinking of how much we spent on this mattress but it’s just not worth it.

After sleeping in an Obasan mattress (and pillows) for a few months, I feel like I never knew good sleep until now. The whole shopping experience was phenomenal. The attention to detail, care and communication we experienced at their shop was outstanding. I would dare anyone to go through it and not buy a mattress. We are farmers and Obasan has helped us sleep better and get rid of pains and aches. It was important for us to source a product we could be proud of, and this checks all the boxes: incredible environmental stewardship, lack of chemicals, social responsibility, local, everything! Can't recommend it enough!

I very hesitantly purchased a mattress from Obasan. It was quite the investment so it took me some time to fully commit but I knew I wanted something non-toxic. Darlie John and the team were very patient through the process and even sent me my pillows in advance of completing the mattress purchase. I immediately fell in love with my latex pillow (like grab it in a fire kind of love).
Then came the mattress... it took some trial and error and at first I was nervous I wasn't going to love it. Again Darlie John patiently helped me to adjust my layers and sent me replacements until the firmness was correct. Once we got it right though, it was heaven on earth! Both my husband and I have completely alleviated the back discomfort we bought it to fix, I sleep like an absolute rock and getting into bed is such a treat. One word of caution though, it'll ruin you for good! You'll never want to leave home because no bed compares. Thanks Obasan, it's love!

We had a wonderful experience with Obasan! Darlie was amazing to work with and took so much care to ensure we were 100% satisfied with our mattresses! We trusted Obasan’s quality and organic materials for our luxury short term rental cabin located near Tremblant. Our guests have asked us numerous times about where they can buy our mattresses and pillows and they absolutely love the plush feeling of the topper. Obasan was even willing to deliver to our location over 2.5 hours away. 100/10 for excellent customer service! We highly recommend Obasan!

Obasan has been a dream to order from! Not only is the mattress incredibly comfortable, but the customer service is without a doubt, the best ever. My fiance felt like he needed more support after a few weeks of sleeping on the mattress and Darlie John immediately sent a firmer substitute. Yes, this mattress is pricey, but our sleep quality and being able to actually talk with someone about it, makes such a difference!
