I have been wanting to switch to an organic mattress for quite some time having learned how toxic they are as I've already had a Nasa based foam mattress - I had no idea how much off-gassing occurs with them. I waited for a great deal and went for the *whole* suite including duvet! I have felt spoilt like "princess and the pea" ever since. It is amazing and worth every penny! I'd highly recommend taking the plunge as it's worth the investment not only in your health but in your sleep. My sleep has been so much better ever since, I have slept like an infant and I can't tell you how much this has meant to me during the pandemic and amidst such grief. Darlie has gone over and beyond in his care and surprised me with a beautiful Christmas gift, a wool blanket, which was just the cherry on top! I love this company and I'd wholeheartedly recommend the investment.

While pregnant, I was searching for a safe crib mattress that would be completely chemical free when I came across Obasan. I was so happy with it that I actually replaced my current toddlers mattress with the Obasan and purchased a second Obasan crib mattress for the upcoming baby. Darlie John was helpful and very easy to deal with. I would shop here again and highly recommend!

We have been enjoying our Obasan 8” mattress and pillows for 2 months now and sleeping soundly through the night! The organic mattress is firm and forgiving, waking up refreshed minus the shoulder/neck discomfort. Their mattresses are layered and can be customized for each sleeper, and a specific layer can be replaced over time.

In their showroom, you can see their production area, which is clean, organized and transparent. We appreciate their use of quality materials with sustainable processes, and made in Canada!

We really value Darlie John’s knowledge and excellent service. He was very thorough in conducting our assessment, and providing recommendations and follow-up instructions on assembly and maintenance. We highly recommend Obasan for their excellent mattresses and customer service.

For a $4000 latex mattress (bought the 9") I've been extremely disappointed. After 2 years of sleeping on it, I now have severe shoulder pain and have had the worst sleep of my life, which has really affected my health. It's like sleeping on a rubber band; you sink in, but there's so much pressure on the joints (especially looser joints like shoulders) that in time it becomes so uncomfortable and painful. I've tried changing out the layers so many times to find a solution that would work and Obasan have been very good in helping me find a solution, but after 2 years of terrible sleep and pain I've given up and decided to buy a new mattress from a different company. Obasan have great customer service and the materials are great quality, but latex doesn't work for a side sleeper. Maybe if I had paid $6000 for one of their top mattresses, I might have had a better sleep experience, but I think it's a rip off to pay that much for a latex mattress with zero technology. I was able to find the same latex layers, all organic with the same specs for a fraction of the price locally. In the end, I'm changing to a hybrid mattress that has better spine support and zoned for side sleepers.

The Obasan shopping experience was truly fun. After filling out the online form with details about body type, typical sleep position, and the like, we arrived at our appointment to find various mattress configuration options set up for us and ready to try out. We opted for the mattress that I literally dozed off on in just a few minutes, including a wool mattress topper and a few pillows.

As others have noted, the customer service is truly top notch and Darlie-John’s name pops up in reviews for good reason. From the first email, to the store experience, thru delivery, and to his followup check-in after a few weeks, he was there with always-exceptional service. There is a sincere belief in the product and a sincere desire to help the customer. And this isn’t new. In addition to our recent experience we had dropped into the store on a whim a few years ago before we were ready to purchase, and even then we had noted and remembered the customer service.

The bed, we love. Obasan helped organize a coordinated delivery with a Kastella bed frame ordered around the same time. Kastella is another amazing Canadian company featured in the Obasan show room - and the coordinated delivery was seamless. While we’ve only had it for 2 months there was no adjustment period and we both find ourselves saying “I love this bed” almost daily. By coincidence I discovered a good friend is also a fan who recently purchased her second Obasan after moving to a king bed.

We’re thrilled to support a small local Canadian business that uses certified organic materials. And with the modular design that allows for partial replacements or adjustments to suit life and sleeping changes, we’re expecting many happy years of sleep and play, yes it’s good for that too, on our Obasan.

I have NEVER experienced such amazing, top notch customer service! Darlie John was so kind, knowledgable, helpful, and thorough from start to finish! And THE BED!!!!! It is truly incredible! Both my husband and I are sleeping better then ever. We LOVE our bed (and shredded latex pillows) so much! If you are contemplating on whether or not the extra money is worth it, let me just say that YES ! Yes it is! And the bonus is sleeping easy knowing that it is such an ethical company with natural materials, and a carbon neutral footprint. And no off gassing of yuky chemicals. One of the best purchases we have ever made!!

Our experience with obasan and the staff involved was absolutely wonderful. Initially I spent an hour on the phone discussing prior to making the trip to Ottawa. After taking months to figure out what kind of mattress back and forth at big box stores I felt so unsure of what to do. We decided to make the trip and give the obasan product a try. Long story short our bed is AMAZING it feels like a luxury hotel bed that I never want to get out of. Darlie John was so helpful with the process helping us select what was appropriate for our sleeping routine. He was patient, and knowledgeable with any of my questions. Our children came for the trial session and it was smooth. Any emails I had later on Darlie John was quick to reply and help me. I’ve since ordered a set of sheets (which are so nice) and also a mattress for my son! You’d think ordering a mattress 2 hours away would be difficult but in fact it’s been effortless thanks to the obasan team. I was waking with lower back pain everyday and this mattress is a game changer. If you are on the fence I’m suggesting to go for it now and don’t think twice. So worth the money!! Thank you obasan

First and foremost, if you care about your health look no further. I've never slept better.

My experience with Obasan was nothing short of phenomenal; Darlie was a pleasure collaborating with, and the delivery gentlemen were nothing short of exemplary - the very definition of "white glove".

They left with the mattress and foundation fully assembled and removed all packaging; which is minimalist and recyclable.

Immediately the quality and attention to detail is apparent, there was zero chemical off-gassing and was ready to use immediately. This is a mattress that really will last at least 20 years (the warranty period) with proper care.

Forget all the overhyped "bed in a box" options that are little more than assembled in Canada, and support local artisans; your health, community, and ultimately, your wallet, will thank you for it.

We found Obasan when we were looking to purchase an organic crib mattress for our little one 5 years ago. We were so happy with the purchase, we bought a king size bed a couple of years later. The mattresses and pillows they made of excellent quality. Also, it makes us happy they are made right here in Ottawa. Darlie John always takes great care of us.

Obasan is by far the best company I've had the pleasure to deal with. They are the definition of going above and beyond.

The service: Darlie John who helped us is a gem! He made us feel like we were his only customers and put a lot of care and thought into his recommendations. We never felt pressured or upsold. I don't even know how to explain it but he just made us feel special and valued, which is really rare nowadays in the service industry.

The product: We've had our mattress and pillows for over a year now and many times we've caught ourselves laying down and say how amazingly comfortable and supportive our mattress is and how glad we are to have found Obasan. We were back a few months later to buy a crib mattress for our son and we will be back for future mattress needs and continue recommending them to friends and family without any doubt.

Obasan is a really special company. They really made us feel valued as customers, sending us masks and thank you gifts after our purchase even if there was very little incentives for them to do so since we were already satisfied with the initial service. They are transparent about their production practices and materials and really offer a superior product. They set the bar very high on all counts.

First of all, Obasan is an amazing Canadian company to deal with. Their customer service (Darlie John) is just amazing and has now sold our family 4 mattresses! I would highly recommended all their products. We first purchased a queen size 10" with foundation and loved the quality and comfort. Then our family got bigger with 2 boys and we then moved into the king size version, equally amazing. Finally our 2 boys are now old enough to enjoy their own Obasan beds, so we just purchased 2 twin size beds for them and I'm sure they will also love them.

First of all, our customer experience was incredible. I loved the chance to nap in the bed - yes, they fit up a bed to your requirements in a private room where you can nap, read, or hang out on the bed to really try it out. My husband fell asleep immediately!

However, we had ordered our bed for delivery into our new home for April, and COVID ended up suspending production on our purchase. The thing was, we had to leave our furnished rental on time and we literally had no bed to sleep on in our house. Topping it off, my husband had had heart surgery 2 months before and I was absolutely frantic about what to do and how to keep him healthy and safe. Well, Darlie John at Obasan lent us a bed, and even had it delivered literally in the final hours before the first COVID lockdown in March. Let me say that again - they LENT US A BED. I can't imagine how stressed they must have been about the sudden production shut-down and what that might mean for their business...and they lent us a bed in our hour of need. I will forever be grateful for that kindness. Now, the product itself?

We purchased a queen bed, topper, protector, duvet, pillows and bed frame. Yup, the whole thing. WORTH EVERY CENT. Yes, Canadian made. Yes, organic. Also, it is the best bed and the best sleep we have ever had. I asked my husband how he would describe it and he said, "It pulls you in and invites you to fall asleep". Healthy sleep is so critical, and this bed, with its organic production and individualized support, is phenomenal.

This is a product worth saving for, and in my experience it is absolutely worth it. The pillows too, I can't even tell you how great they are! Before Obasan, my neck would sometimes be so sore in the morning I couldn't turn it. That doesn't happen now, and I truly believe it is the bed and pillows that have changed that for me.

Anyhoodle, this has turned into a story! All I can say is I wasn't super keen on Obasan before going into the store just because I thought it was probably an overpriced whatever place, but between the amazing customer service, the organic and Canadian-made features, and the actual products themselves, I am a believer.

OK, so I’m slow! Last Fall, Darlie John asked if I might like to send a note about my experience with Obasan since by then I had been sleeping on my mattress for about a year. Meant to do it immediately, but somehow life got in the way and only now do I get to really express how much I appreciate my purchases. When I bought, I had moved to Nova Scotia, was downsizing my home, and so needed a smaller size bed. Knew I wanted genuine latex (having owned one years earlier), but where to buy? So, first the iPad, then the phone, then some lengthy conversations with two possible suppliers, and then decisions were made,sight unseen. And in due course there arrived a headboard, base, boxes of squares and rectangles of latex; pillows, covers etc., and a sheet of instructions. Shipper was terrific, by the way. I have slept blissfully ever since!
And here’s the kicker: next year I will be 90 years old, and yet today I just figured it was time to flip the sections over again before changing sheets and was able to do the whole thing completely unaided, as usual.
This Company and their products are unmatched in my opinion, and it has been a pleasure to buy from them. I would do so again without a moment’s hesitation,

I decided to replace my beloved Tempur-pedic. I didn't realize that there was something so much better out there! On my search I was looking for something organic and hopefully made in Canada. After asking around and doing some of my own research I found out about Obasan from my sister-in-law who has had an Obasan for many years and loves it! Best of all, it's made in my home town of Ottawa. That right there almost sold me. Upon going into the store, Darlie greeted us and showed us all of the different options - amazing. We went with the customized option as we are totally different heights, weights, shapes. I have no back pain in the morning when I wake up, which I did have prior to purchasing this bed. On top of that, the customer service was and still is amazing. They are with you every step of the way, checking in to make sure all is going well and answering any questions. I had many questions in the beginning and have just recently reached out again to discuss details of the flipping - once again Darlie responded right away - I am always met with kindness and extremely knowledgeable responses. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this product and company. Well worth every cent and I can honestly say this is the best customer service I have ever received.

I discovered Obasan after returning a bed-in-a-box due to off gassing. I didn’t realize how toxic mattresses could be with nasty chemicals, flame retardants, etc. I was still in the process of researching alternatives but one visit to Obasan and I knew it was the right decision. Non toxic, no off gassing, and a company that is honest about what goes into their product with no gimmicks or green-washing.

The mattress is so comfortable that I still look forward to crawling into bed every night. And no more back pain. However, as good as the mattress is, i can’t say enough nice things about Darlie John. He is knowledgeable, patient, and sincere. It’s obvious he cares about his customers. Adrian helped with organizing delivery and was also great to deal with. I purchased my bed a few weeks before COVID and Darlie John even phoned me over shutdown to see how I was enjoying my mattress and pillows. And they sent me two reusable masks. I will definitely be purchasing Obasan as the other mattresses in our home come up for replacement, it’s worth every penny.

In 2016 my search for a mattress free of chemicals, synthetics, pesticides, and flame retardants lead me to Obasan. I couldn’t believe what I was looking for was right here in Canada. I was so grateful for the experience with the company and the quality of their products that I bought a second Obasan mattress for my son last month. Every part of dealing with Obasan is enjoyable. The staff are knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Their products, from mattresses and pillows to protectors and covers, are all made with thoughtfully and ethically chosen materials. The best part of all is that the beds are amazingly comfortable! For me, it is such a relief to have furniture in my house that contributes to a healthy home, as well as a good night’s sleep. What more could you ask for?
