I cannot recommend Vets4Pets in Reading highly enough. I took my two timid, vet- phobic border collies there for vaccinations. The reception staff and the vet were all amazing. The dogs didn’t even notice that they’d had their injections. Will definitely use this surgery again. Thank you all at Vets4Pets 😊

Absolute rip off merchants. Avoid. Stick to small local personal vets, Vets for Pets is a commercial entity interested in one thing only ... money.

With a bill of over £3000 after 6 days of visi
ts for drips, drugs, IV treatment, scans, they STILL can't diagnose the problem. Their solution = euthanasia.

Any yet, when my dog is home he is comfortable and happier. I do not trust these vets at all.

The cost of taking your pet to a vet is ridiculous how can they justify what they charge? Charges for writing out a prescription? consultancy charge? It seems they only have to see you in the waiting room sitting in a chair with your pet and there’s a charge, then you have the cost of medication etc which usually is 50 to100% dearer elsewhere. What is going on? - I thought we were a nation of animal lovers😡

I was with this company from when my…

I was with this company from when my little one was a puppy, routine vaccinations for years. I went to them when my dog became ill, we was 10. They said oh its OK, maybe an allergy here are some anti-inflammatories. Could it be anything else? Well he's old so sometimes it's best not to know but there is a scan but hes old so what would be gained (in a nutshell thats how coversation went). That was it. I felt so upset when I left they wrote him off, my breed can go to 20 years. There was no care. He got worse, breathing became bad but there was no way I was going back to them, id lost any faith in them. We found another local vet who was amazing, we went in as an emergency, so many tests done and they cared for our doggie. He cared so much. I felt safe and knew we were in best place.Vets4pets only seem interested in money, all glamorous but no care. My new vets wasn't glamorous, their money went to the animals n care. Sadly, because of the delay in finding the cause it was revealed there was nothing we could do for him. Vets should be about animals not money, vets4pets its all money! Please beware

Small pets don’t matter to them

Tried to get an emergency appointment for my guinea pig and told to get there for 5 mins as they had a space but would need to be quick . Got there in 4 mins as only half a mile up the road. Rushed in and was told to take a seat….. waited nearly an hour before I had had enough and asked why I’m still waiting when they are the ones who told me to hurry up and get there. Was told that the vet was doing surgery and no idea how long they would be ……. Why the hell did you give me that appointment then ? I had to leave at that point to pick up my daughter from nursery to which the staff member patronised me asking “I thought it was an emergency? Rude and uncaring . Went somewhere else much more caring and lovely . Will never use vets 4 pets again

Have been going to the practice for…

Have been going to the practice for about fourteen years with our two cats. In early Dec. Lola collapse and had breathing problems. She and also been sick.
We made an appointment to see a Vet as soon as possible. (Vets keep changing unlike some practices).
Lola had been diagnosed with a heart murmur some years ago but no medication was ever prescribed.
Our little cat was subjected to numerous blood tests and scans . She was also given a medication to encourage her to eat. We never received a diagnosis and her Murmur was never mentioned! Lola died early one morning soon after with the classic signs of a heart attack. We are devastated by her loss and it still hurts as I write this. Compassion and competence are alien to this practice. They do not even have a facility to keep pets overnight whatever procedures they might have ! The bill was about £900. Thank you.

Absolutely appalling service

Absolutely appalling service took the day off work for my dog to have her booster shot because they don’t do booster shots on injections on a Saturday (which is shameful because some people who work full-time.) got there and was told that medication for the shot was out of stock and my dog could not have her injection I left and then got a call from the receptionist who told me I walked out before I gave the vet a chance to explain that there was an alternative which is an absolute lie. I was told categorically that my dog could not have her injection. They said there was an alternative but the vet didn’t know about (so how could she have explained to me that there was an alternative) and could I come back down at 3 o’clock? Bearing in mind that I was given the wrong information and I actually turned up on time for my appointment I think they should’ve said could you bring your dog straight back down and we will give her her injection but no, I had to go down at a rearrange time of 2:15. What a waste of my day!!

Coventry Vets for pets , No customer service

My dog's appointment today was for 12pm. I arrived at the vets for 11.50am. Booked in and sat down. After waiting until 12.10pm , I asked the reception if they had me booked in? Yes she said your booked with vet M. I have now on the last 3 occasions , been sat waiting and been ignored for over an hour. I had to be back to work at 1pm so I asked again what the problem was at 12.30pm? I was told the vet was running late after an emergency first thing that morning and another lady in front of me had an half hour slot booked ! I should have been given this information after the first time I spoke and checked in. I was finally seen by the vet at 12.50pm and never got back to work until 1.30pm which is appalling . If I was given this information at the beginning when checking in I could have rebooked and not put my Job at risk. Appointments are for a reason, I will not be returning to this practice, after going here for over 10 years. it has almost tripled in price since it was bought by the staff. Profit is all that matters now with Vets for Pets. Customer service is lacking very much. I asked to speak to a manager and was told non on site. Then I asked for complaints procedure and was given a basic business card with the standard info on for vets for pets. I asked reception to write on the business card the managers name. She refused and said if you email that address and put the name Y in the subject bar she deals with it. Very bad customer service.

I took my dog to pets for vets on…

I took my dog to pets for vets on Stourbridge rd yesterday for treatment for ear infection.
I believe that I was ripped off with the prices charged for tablets and ointment that I was given.
I was charged £28.92 for ear cleaner, exact same make online was £6.48, ear drops £63.97 online same stuff £24.54. 2 tablets to calm him down 1 I was charged £17, online 11pence each, other charged £16.42 online 19 pence each. If that’s not a ripoff I don’t know what is. + labour cost that I have no problem with.
It’s like a carpenter charging you £1 a nail + labour.

My dog underwent an operation

My dog underwent an operation. The insurance covered 80% and I covered 20% of costs. I was given a bill from vets for pets, which I paid. Unfortunately, a week after the operation, my dog passed away. Eight weeks later, vets for pets contacted me demanding payment because they had made a mistake with the calculations. I payed, but am really disappointed with them over the situation

Poor incorrect information led to our dog being euthanised

We took our beautiful, 5 year old French bulldog to vets 4 pets in Southport as it was an emergency as he had suddenly became paralysed in his back legs. I rang up for an appointment Sunday morning and they offered me 12:15 which I then had to ring back and ask for an earlier appointment as he was going downhill fast. We arrived and the vet examined him as he clearly couldn’t use his back legs as they were dragging behind him but she told us he was only stage 2/3 IVDD. We were unfamiliar with what this was and put our trust in the vet. She said that if he was stage 4/5 then surgery would be the best option but stated that as he was only stage 2/3 then medical management has good results if we put him on pain killers and strict crate rest and to bring him back a week later. Only he isn’t here a week later as we had to get him put to sleep, our hearts are broken. She was telling us that years ago they would’ve only advised surgery but nowadays they recommend medical management in this stage and I can read research papers on the internet of good results at home.

The surgery is between £6000 and £8000 which is obviously a lot of money and due to what she was telling us about the medical management at home we went with that option, but it turns out she just gave us false hope. Our usual vets got in touch with us and asked if we could bring him in to see our usual vet so we did and that’s where he gave us the horrible news that due to the breed he should’ve been operated on within the first 8 hours or 24 hours at maximum of this happening or it is fatal. He then sent us to a specialist vets in Wigan for an MRI scan and to get the surgery however that was not possible as he was too far gone and we had no choice but to put him to sleep. Even though we couldn’t afford the surgery we went to Wigan to pay the surgery and mri scan on a payment plan if it meant we could save him. I feel so let down and just want to warn everybody as I believe that he would still be with us today if we would’ve got different advice when we first took him to vets for pets on Sunday.

Two separate vets (one being a specialist surgeon who would’ve been performing the operation and our usual vet) both told us that with him being a French bull dog it’s vital for him to have been operated on within the first 24 hours for him to have a chance at surviving but with most other breeds then the advice would’ve been correct from vets 4 pets just NOT French bull dogs. However it felt like she was reciting a text book and not looking at the animal who was in front of her and it has now cost him his life. I am absolutely distraught as we will never see his gorgeous little face ever again. Since this has happened yesterday we have looked at other reviews online and seen that this is not the first time something like this has happened, I don’t want this to happen to anyone else as it has absolutely broken us. Please please please look into your vets even in an emergency.

This is what vets 4 pets have since replied, and yes we are grieving pet owners because we have been given poor advice since being told by a specialist and our usual vets. I’m not looking for someone to blame I would just like everyone to do their research before going to any vets. Since it happened I have had even more people message me telling me similar horror stories that could’ve been fatal if not checked with another vets.

Vets for pets Bromborough- Excellent

I go to Bromborough and they look after mine and my daughter’s dogs. A range of surgery, treatment for infections and general care. Not noticeably more expensive. Lovely staff with an excellent vet Rob. Highly recommend.

Longwell Green - AVOID. Rude, overcharge and 250% mark up on meds

Longwell Green / Bristol / S Glos Practice.
I took my dog in for an eye irritation on a Saturday and we saw a vet that I have never seen at the practice before. From the outset I was concerned about her manner with my dog, manhandling him and unable to tell if HE had been neutered (not difficult to tell with a male dog is it). My dog is such a happy boy and he was traumatised when we left.

She then went on to over prescribe unnecessary amounts of medication, that I would NEVER have known about had she not failed to tell me which order the eye drops go in.

As she was unavailable, and never called back i put the drops into Google hoping that would help- not only did I realise that the amount of meds were unnecessary, I realised that I had been charged a 250% MARK UP on the price.

I have since read that this is a known issue, with Vets4Pets being one of the worst, and being investigated by the various watch dogs.

Its NOT just the price, its that pets are being FALSELY diagnosed JUST to qualify them to get medicated at HUGE PROFIT for the vet - there is **ZERO** care for animals here - just money.

I have spoken to the very rude and arrogant practice manager who didn't seem to care and was more concerned about her practice receiving the complaint - disgraceful.

I would strongly recommend AVOIDING using Vets4Pets or any high street chain - choose a LOCAL independent vet! and always Google costs before you pay.

Massive 200% mark up on medication! Get script, buy online!!!

Before you buy any medication from your vet,GOOGLE COST ONLINE and get a prescription OR if its human medication it might be OVER COUNTER AT BOOTS / PHARMACY. I've just paid £148 pounds !!!for medications (two sets of which it turns out I don't even need!) that would cost £52 online, same at Boots.

The receptionists are great, and some of the vets but I'm utterly disgusted at this rip off and oversell of medications - makes me think they care more for my money than my precious dog.

Also Google "vets rip off medication" - this is a UK problem and is in all the newspapers. An investigation is being done by regulators into this price gouging by the consumer watch dog to stop vets 200% profit margin!

Always a lovely experience

Stockport branch - After our dog had a quite serious accident they were super reassuring, made us aware of every step and helped to transfer our dog to an emergency clinic.

Even for smaller concerns they are very proffesional and knowledgeable and brilliant at handling a nervous dog.

Our 4 year rabbit was misdiagnosed and had to be euthanised

Our 4 year rabbit was misdiagnosed. The Vet at the Havant practice said our pet possibly had a bad case of gas in her stomach. We were given 3 prescriptions to try and cure this. On the 2nd visit, the vet filed down her teeth, even though he said they look fine. She was also given some water to rehydrated her and we were given another 3 of the same prescriptions that we had purchased on the the first visit!! None of the drugs worked so we took our pet back for a 3rd visit and another vet at the practice told us our rabbit likely had a bacterial infection which likely started in her stomach and which then spread to her lungs. She was then euthanised. It cost us £400 from start to finish (about 10 days) to bury our rabbit. Thanks Vets4pets!! She was only young. If she was diagnosed correctly, we may still have a pet and also not have spent £400 of which was £120 for euthanasia.
I am absolutely disgusted and heart broken, especially for our kids. We felt we were just used to buy the unnecessary drugs and were an open cheque book. I will never use Vets4pets again. I will use a private vet that isnt linked to a large nationwide company pet store. They havent got a majority of one star reviews for nothing. Please listen to these reviews and do not take your pets to Vets4pets. Learn from others misfortune, upset and grief.

Please don’t take your fur babies to…

Please don’t take your fur babies to vets for pets. My poor little doggy has a yeast infection and allergies. I took her to vets for pets in Durham who diagnosed her with this, gave her medication and asked me to change to grain free food! Then said bring her back so I can see that it’s worked. I did both, she started looking well and declined at end of course. I asked for a repeat prescription! Big fat NO! Must bring her in again! Another £98 just under excess yet again, second time this has happened. Given antibiotics this then round and told she may have just needed anti biotics to clear it up aswell as other medications.
She started looking well and declined again after anti biotics (in a capsule may I add, tablets are bad enough to give a dog). I was told to return so they could check on whether these had worked.
Emailed the vets and told them she declined again and why I keep having to have full cash appointments when it’s the same issue!
My response was ‘you were told at the first appointment that it’s a life long illness! You were asked to return and didn’t! I did I or wouldn’t have received anti biotic.
I was told this should have been in December! This was in December! She was given antibiotics. As she has just finished the steroids this week.
And if they are telling me it’s a life long illness, then why were long term meds never put in place!?? Disgraceful practice! These need shutting down.
