The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Energy is the EU funding programme to implement the Trans-European Networks for Energy policy. It aims at supporting investments in building new cross-border energy infrastructure in Europe or rehabilitating and upgrading the existing one.
The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport is the funding instrument to realise European transport infrastructure policy. It aims at supporting investments in building new transport infrastructure in Europe or rehabilitating and upgrading the existing one.
The CEF Digital portion is managed by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).

The Bulgarian port of Burgas can now accommodate 260 m long cargo ships, thanks to an infrastructure update co-financed by CEF Transport. The rebirth28 project constructed a new deep-water berth (berth 28) at the Burgas West terminal in the port of Burgas in Bulgaria.

The Lyon-Turin Base Tunnel is a TEN-T flagship infrastructure project in the heart of the Mediterranean Corridor. It will consist of a 57.5-kilometer rail tunnel beneath the Alps, for the cross-border section between Italy and France.

In the European Union, a harmonised and synchronised ITS plays a crucial role in improving cross-border traffic and transport. With over €32 million in funding from the CEF Transport programme, ITS is helping to improve traffic management and foster cooperation in Central Europe.

With this selection, the AFIF will support approximately 2,500 electric recharging points for light-duty vehicles and 2,400 for heavy-duty vehicles along the European TEN-T road network, 35 hydrogen refuelling stations for vehicles, and more.

CINEA received 258 applications requesting over €9.5 billion in co-funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport by the call deadline of 21 January 2025. It is nearly four times more than the €2.5 billion budget available for the 2024 CEF Transport calls for proposals.

Europe’s air traffic management (ATM) is composed of country-based systems and processes – a fragmentation that resulted in a lack of interoperability and more costly air navigation services.
