The launch of the first phase of the direct registration service for the national domain extension (.KW)

26 Dec 2024

The Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority launched today, Monday, the first phase of the direct registration service for the (.KW) domain extension. This service is divided into three phases, with the first phase starting today and continuing for a period of six months.

The Director of the Public Sector Governance Department at CITRA, Engineer Manal Al-Mazyad, stated during a press conference held on this occasion that the first phase is called the "Sunrise Period." This phase provides an opportunity for government entities, registered trademark owners, and holders of third-level domains (.com.kw / .net.kw / .org.kw) to register direct domain names under the national (.KW) extension, in accordance with the domain registration policy issued by the authority.

Al-Mazyad added that the authority has been managing and regulating the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) since 2017, in accordance with its establishment law No. (37) of 2014. CITRA has created an integrated electronic system for registering domain names under the third-level extension, and it has also established the necessary policies to ensure the organization of this process in line with the approved domain registration regulations.

She called on all relevant entities to visit the official website of the authority to view the complete details regarding the registration policy and the necessary procedures for registering domains during the Sunrise Period. Additionally, they can contact the authority through official channels to obtain further information.
