Responsibilities

As Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica’s task is to create a common and people-centred agenda and develop partnerships with the Mediterranean region and countries across our Southern Neighbourhood based on common values and dialogue. She is also the Commissioner in charge of demography.

She is responsible for:

  • leading the work on the New Pact for the Mediterranean to address shared challenges and invest in a common future, building partnerships focused on investment, economic stability, jobs, energy, transport, security, migration, and other areas of mutual interest
  • setting up a Trans-Mediterranean Energy and Clean Tech Cooperation Initiative to increase renewable energy trading and boost clean tech manufacturing in the region
  • working with partners in the region to operationalise the external aspects of migration policy, such as border controls and fighting smugglers, in respect of human rights, as well as work more closely on security, fighting organised crime and terrorism
  • supporting the High Representative/Vice-President on the Middle East and the Gulf
  • steering the implementation of the Demography Toolbox to help Member States address their demographic challenges
  • supporting work on increasing participation in the labour market, especially by women, young people and other underrepresented groups

Meetings and missions

As part of the Commission's commitment to transparency, Commissioners and their Cabinet members publish information on and minutes of all meetings they hold with interest representatives. Every two months, they also publish an overview of mission expenses.

Declaration of interests

In line with the Commission's Code of Conduct for Members of the Commission, each Member of the Commission publishes a declaration of interests. The declarations of the Commissioners-designate can be found on the European Parliament’s website, where they were published before the confirmation hearings of the Commissioners.

The declarations of interests of the new Members of the Commission will be updated and published here at the beginning of 2025 in line with Article 3 of the Code of Conduct for the Members of the European Commission. Machine-readable versions of all declarations will also be made available in line with the requirements of the Code of Conduct. The declarations of interests follow the requirements set out in Article 3 and Annex 1 of the Code of Conduct for Commissioners.
