COMMISSIONER (2024-2029) | Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport

Responsibilities

Glenn Micallef is the Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport. His task is to give young people more freedom, say and responsibility within our societies, building on what brings us together in diversity, from our cultural heritage to sport at all levels.

He is responsible for:

  • preparing a Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness to ensure that interests of present and future generations are respected throughout policy and law making
  • making sure young people’s voices are heard to help shape Europe’s future, including by coordinating the Youth Policy Dialogues each Commissioner will organise once a year, and helping to set up the President’s Youth Advisory Board
  • developing a new Culture Compass to guide and harness the multiple dimensions of culture, with a focus on improving the working conditions of artists and cultural professionals
  • working on a strategy to strengthen the European Sport Model and making the most of the potential of physical activity to improve people’s physical and mental health 
  • working on an action plan against cyberbullying and the implementation of the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child
  • taking forward the work on strategic foresight to identify trends, research and technology developments that will have an impact on future generations

Transparency

Meetings and missions

As part of the Commission's commitment to transparency, Commissioners and their Cabinet members publish information on and minutes of all meetings they hold with interest representatives. Every two months, they also publish an overview of mission expenses.

Declaration of interests

In line with the Commission's Code of Conduct for Members of the Commission, each Member of the Commission publishes a declaration of interests. The declarations of the Commissioners-designate can be found on the European Parliament’s website, where they were published before the confirmation hearings of the Commissioners. 

The declarations of interests of the new Members of the Commission will be updated and published here at the beginning of 2025 in line with Article 3 of the Code of Conduct for the Members of the European Commission. Machine-readable versions of all declarations will also be made available in line with the requirements of the Code of Conduct. The declarations of interests follow the requirements set out in Article 3 and Annex 1 of the Code of Conduct for Commissioners.
