Room Escape FAQ
What is Room Escape?
Room Escape is a point-and-click game where you find yourself stuck in a room โ and you have to get out. Explore every nook and cranny, solve puzzles and combination locks, and do what you need to do to find the key to leave.
How do I play?
All you need for Room Escape is a mouse (or your finger, if youโre playing on a tablet or phone). Click on any item of interest (a backpack, a plant, a couch, and so on) to zoom into that item. Click again to interact with it. A helpful black bar at the bottom of the screen will give you context clues when you click โ maybe thereโs nothing to see here, or you need an item to interact with what youโre clicking on. The goal is to solve enough puzzles to get a key that unlocks the front door.
What do I do with items?
While exploring โ or after solving a puzzle โ you might be presented with an item like a knife, screwdriver, or piece of paper with a clue for another puzzle. Click on the item and it will move to your inventory on the right side of the screen. Click an item in your inventory to select it. From there, you can do two things:
- Click โInspect Itemโ at the bottom of your inventory to get a closer look. This is helpful for some items that have small text.
- Click on an item in the room, and if the item in your inventory can interact with it, it will. (For instance, if youโve selected a screwdriver that you have in your inventory and then click on a light switch, the light switch plate may be removed. Perhaps thereโs another clue or item inside!)
What happens if I use an item in the room and I donโt get another clue?
That will happen! Itโs often that using an item successfully wonโt give you another item or another clue. But your item will have a use somewhere โ keep exploring!
What do I do if I get stuck and Iโm not sure what to do next?
Room Escape can be a tough game. Luckily, if you get stuck, you have options! Once you feel like youโve clicked everything and arenโt getting anywhere, you can try either of these:
- Click โHINTโ in the top-right corner of the screen. After you watch an ad, youโll get a hint that can point you in the right direction.
- When you zoom in on certain puzzles, such as combination locks or keypads, you may get a prompt in the bottom-left of the screen that says โOPEN IT!โ Watch an ad and the obstacle will be gone.
How often are games available?
There is a new Room Escape game every day, so you can test your skills with your morning coffee! Click โDailyโ from the home screen to access todayโs game. You can also click โLevelsโ to get a list of archived rooms, so you can escape rooms all day long.
Can I get a game over?
No.
Can I pause the game?
Yes. This will pause the timer, so your high score is not affected. Click the โpauseโ symbol in the top-left corner of the screen to pause.

The color squares are almost always book colors from another room, or lights on the tv boxes. Look for hidden letters in plants, vases, etc. The time on clocks is usually the combo to safes. Can also be numbers to add up to become a pin #. There are usually 3 different #s to add together, however, sometimes the correct PIN correlates to a clock's time.
Does anyone else have any tips that can shorten the learning curve for people struggling?

The answers have been pretty easy for me UNTIL today. I can't get it. grrr!
I think that you do have to click on everything even though it does not apply to the answer.
So far none of the numbers have had anything to do with the answer placed in the box. Only the letters. Today's has T I M E and the riddle, Light as a feather but you can't hold forever and then the word provided is Breath but with the time letters I can't figure out the answer.

I love Escape Rooms but this virtual one isnt working for me either; I expect it requires some familiarity with how to navigate the rooms and items so I will keep trying. I did try and every time I click for a hint I get a long ad so it seems these games have been designed, not for the benefit of members but to get advertising revenue for AARP. beginning to realise that doing these 'games' will not be good for my brain with all these senseless adverts.

Pretty mindless game after doing it a few times. You go the same way, start in the room click on backpack, bottom shelf, check for scrambled letters on plants, in vase, fireplace tools, sometimes in a locked section, those letters usually go for the locked box in the first room--this is where the key is to get out. solve the mystery word on the box and you win. Each room has another set of boxes or safes or puzzles to perform something. I click on the "open it" several times and the clue is revealed. I got the ads when playing on the laptop but when I play on the ipad I don't get the ads. Then when you decide to play different levels and you complete it, it does not always compute. I did puzzle 77 with the word pizza several times, it did not register as complete. You cannot leave the game and come back later you have to start all over with new places that clues may be but they all are in the same places after a while. And in my case I complete the game, my "score" is not indicated on my page. MIndless.

I have found things I don't know what to do with like flashlight and battery. I have found a pocket knife now and then that I use to cut open the couches. Most of the time the best clues are the letters that are used for the chest in the first room. You might find the letters in odd spots like plants, pictures, when you break a light or lamp, and sometimes in the second locked box. I have only found 4 of the 5 letters for the box and have to deduce the final letter by trial and error. Like I find zipa I figure it is pizza and it is. Harder when there are many choices. After I've done a few that lead no where I usually give up and start over. When you start over it is a new game and new clues. When I find a screwdriver I click on all the light switch or wall plates to unscrew them. Once in a while there is a clue behind one. A hammer will break any vase and any overhead light fixture. Sometime there is a clue behind it. Many times the clue is a number or series of numbers. I find that the containers with colored squares or a key pad or dial don't have to be solved. I can click on the Open It several times and the container is opened. The jewels need all the items to open the box. I have never filled the entire box of clues so not sure if getting all of them gives you a get out of jail free card. The fireplace says it needs a special tool and I thought the flashlight would help but I do not know what tool to use there. The wrench opens the screen near the ceiling, I think it is the second room. Good luck!
