AARP Eye Center
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to this community for guidance regarding a financial matter involving benefits left by my late grandfather. (I didnt know where to post this so please forgive me!). He passed away in 2011, and I recently discovered that there may be $5,000 in benefits available through his insurance. I’ve been told that in Connecticut, claims like this do not expire, which gives me hope that I can still access these funds.
Context:
-My grandfather passed away in 2010, leaving behind an insurance policy with potential benefits that were never claimed.
-I live in Connecticut, where I understand that insurance claims don’t have a strict expiration date, but I’m unsure about the specific process or challenges I might face in filing a claim after so much time has passed.
-I’m currently in a transitional period, moving out of a difficult living situation, and this $5,000 could provide a significant boost in helping me establish stability.
my questions
- Has anyone dealt with claiming benefits from a long-lost insurance policy after a significant time gap? What was the process like?
- What documentation will I need to present to the insurance company to prove my eligibility for the claim?
- Are there specific steps I should take to ensure the claim goes smoothly, such as contacting the insurance company, an attorney, or another resource?
-Could there be any complications I should be prepared for, such as needing proof of my grandfather’s policy or dealing with other beneficiaries?
I’ve already started gathering information about the policy, but I’m not entirely sure where to begin with the claim process. Any advice, tips, or resources you can share would be greatly appreciated. I want to handle this properly and make sure that these benefits can be used as my grandfather intended.
