I don’t know about you, but if I bought something online and never got it, and then didn’t get my money back, I’d be like, “Dude, that’s not right.” The FTC says that’s not right, either.
The FTC alleged that Hey Dude Shoes failed to send customers their product in the time it promised — or at all. What’s more, the company didn’t immediately refund customers their money. In doing so, it violated Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule. The FTC also says the company hid from customers reviews with fewer than four out of five stars, which is against the law.
To make it right, Hey Dude Shoes must pay $1.95 million dollars to refund customers their money — it also must stop hiding unfavorable customer reviews.
The Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule applies to most things you buy online. Here’s the upshot of the rule:
- Sellers must ship your order when they say they will. If there's a delay, they must tell you and give you two options: 1) agree to the delayed shipping or 2) cancel and get a refund.
- If you choose a refund, the refund must go back to the original form payment. The seller can't give you a gift card or store credit.

The shoes are awful about the insoles wadding up and coming out of the shoe. Thay don't hold up well either. I was given a pair as a gift, me personally will never buy a pair.

I actually think they are adorable and great for casual wear. I bought some for my husband for the unique look of them, and then shortly after bought a pair for my son and then myself. Ordered one pair through Hey Dude on Amazon, one pair through their actual website, and one pair from The Buckle's website. No issues with any of them and have even been able to throw them in the washer and come out fine.
I purchased at least 5 pair of Hey Dude shoes in the last two years and never had this issue. My shoes were shipped to me within the prescribed time frame and were the product I ordered. I have not had the issues described in the article. Maybe I am the lucky one.
I have had lots of experience with this. Especially ads on facebook. I always pay with PayPal and file a complaint when something happens. Which is most times! I report what I can, but have found out that they are blocking emails from copy and paste so you can't copy them or forward them. Many of these products are in China. I found one that was selling Ruger 22 LR with a silencer. I tried to order it and after I put in the credit card information, they didn't connect with PayPal I get a notice from my security that it is a suspicious website. So I of course cancelled it. The fraud department from my bank called and they tried to put through 6 charges on my account. 2 I believe in the US; 2 in the UK and 2 in Hong Kong. Of course I declined them and had to get a new credit card!

Same problem here. Ordered two pairs of shoes and never got them. Disputed credit card charge and they won't even reply to the communication from the credit card company. Don't do any purchasing off Facebook for Hey Dude shoes!

That likely wasn't Hey Dude the company if you purchased from Facebook Marketplace unless it brought you to their actual website. What you did was probably purchase from a scammer who appeared to be Hey Dude. You should always buy from a reputable company and find the link on your own, not through a third or fourth party like Facebook or. Facebook post.
Thank you FTC for continuing to protect consumers! Your work is much appreciated.
I've ordered a few times and twice I had a similar ssue. The order arrived, but it was a month late. I also ordered through a third party one time and ended up getting a new credit card due to fraud attempts. Sad really. I love these shoes, but I don't like supporting greedy dips.
I'm glad this topic came up. I don't know this company but I've been scammed a few times. The last one was a $60 one and TY hey charged my boyfriends card for a VIP purchase. I wo u ld never pay sixty dollars for anything on an app. I had the bank dispute it with no luck. And the he app developer will not respond to me. So I know how it feels to be taken for a ride. Thanks for supporting us consumers
I've never heard of Hey Dude Shoes. I've never ordered anything substantial from a site or product I don't know. There's nothing wrong with trying a new company but I usually test them first to see if they do what they say they're going to do and then if I like the product or the way it was shipped then I might order from them again but I think it's better to stay with reputable companies they offer better quality. China is not a good place to be getting any kind of goods as far as I'm concerned. they are always cheap and the quality really shows. thank you I really enjoy your emails and I have learned a lot. Same! I ordered directly from the company for a Christmas gift and they kept ignoring my emails. Was wondering if there was a claim form somewhere?
My husband loves the shoes, he has two pair and wants more. I purchase them through Amazon Prime and haven't had a problem with quality or delivery.
They got me for 4 pairs. They were delivered to Texas and I live across the United States. They should change their name to Sorry Dude, your SOL.
My mom purchased a pair of Hey Dude shoes only to be sold 2 right foot shoes. She tried the one on on display and it fit, so she didn't keep her receipt. She had the box they came in, the tags, her photo id and phone number. When she went back to the The Shoe Dept they told her they were sorry, but they couldn't do anything to help her. The employee didn't apologize for the mistake or try to resolve the issue. My mom is a regular customer, but unless this is resolved she will not be going back. She lost $40 for purchasing an unmatching pair of Hey Dude shoes that were not in wearable condition.
How can I get my rufund they just charge me twice and custumer service its terrible
Ordered weeks ago. Never shipped. Keep telling me it will be delivered on this day. Never comes.
Well ordered 2 pairs of shoes in the first part of November...got them in good time but one pair was to big so asked to exchange ....Mailed them back on November 18th ...they received them on November 21st and now they say I should get maybe by December 24th or after.....so maybe I'll have a Christmas present for my son in law or maybe not.....It takes over a month for an exchange...If I knew this before I would have asked for money to be refunded or not ordered from them!!
