In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, students often get lost and feel overwhelmed, unsure of how to prepare for the future. Samsung Innovation Campus, Samsung’s global CSR initiative, aims to empower students by equipping them with cutting-edge skills and knowledge.
In India, Samsung Innovation Campus offers four pivotal courses designed to meet the demands of the current job market: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Coding & Programming. With a comprehensive and hands-on approach, Samsung Innovation Campus is making a significant impact on the students’ lives.
“I was unsure about my career, like many students,” said Harsh Channa, a student who is taking the IoT course at Samsung Innovation Campus in Delhi. “However, thanks to my teachers who introduced me to Samsung Innovation Campus, I found a direction for my career. We are learning advanced technology courses based on the emerging IoT job opportunities,” he explained.
Harsh’s story underscores the essential role that Samsung Innovation Campus plays in guiding students toward a promising future. By providing industry-relevant training and hands-on experience, the program not only improves students’ technical skills but also boosts their confidence and career clarity. “It has given me a lot of confidence. Thanks to Samsung Innovation Campus, now I know which route to take,” added Harsh.
“The content of Samsung Innovation Campus courses is rich and well organized,” said Piyush Bagga, a teacher of Samsung Innovation Campus in Delhi. “After taking the IoT course, students will be able to have a better understanding of embedded systems for the design purpose and be better prepared for Industry 4.0,” he added.
Samsung Innovation Campus is more than just an educational program. It is a platform for the innovators of tomorrow. The program constantly updates its courses to keep up with the latest developments in technology and business to ensure that the students are ready to lead in the future. Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, Samsung’s educational CSR initiative, inspires youth by offering innovative experiences beyond the classroom. In July 2024, four high school students - participants in Samsung Solve for Tomorrow from across the U.S. were invited to participate in Babson College’s Summer Study program.
Designed to empower students to apply STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills to practical projects, the Summer Study program emphasized community partnerships, providing students with hands-on problem-solving and leadership opportunities. By extending beyond individual achievement, the program aimed to foster talents that can have a lasting, positive impact within their communities.
Babson College’s Summer Study program teaches students how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to solve real-world problems. Students engaged in virtual sessions blending theory with hands-on activities, team-based projects, field research, and prototype development, while addressing global challenges such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Eniah Endriga, Anthony Yao, Siddhi Singh, and Carmen Martinez who participated in the program developed a software designed to reduce food waste. To help restaurants reduce food waste, the software streamlines restaurant inventory management, sending alerts for stock levels and expiration dates. “I now realize the importance of thorough research and preparation when developing a solution,” said Anthony, highlighting the value of solutions grounded in research.
The Babson program emphasized more than technical skills; it also focused on fostering leadership, emotional intelligence, and social justice. Eniah reflected, “I now see entrepreneurship as creating a business venture that not only generates profit but also addresses societal issues and brings tangible benefits to our community.” Siddhi echoed this shift in perspective, sharing, “Now I know the essence of entrepreneurship is about creating a lasting, beneficial legacy to the society. ”
Carmen encouraged her peers to seize opportunities by saying, “My advice to students considering about participating in Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is to put yourself out there and say yes to rare opportunities even if you’re unsure. It might be nerve wracking since you won’t know what to expect, but it is important to challenge yourself with courage.” The program helped each student build confidence and embrace challenges with a mindset for growth and impact.
In Taiwan, drinking tea is a part of everyday life, but the waste they generate often goes unnoticed. Kate and Catherine, two high school seniors from Taiwan, took on the challenge of transforming tea waste into an innovative solution for environmental protection through Samsung Solve for Tomorrow.
Their project repurposes discarded tea leaves into oil absorbent sheets, providing a sustainable option for industries that rely on clean water, like river preservation groups and the food industry. In the process, two students developed valuable skills that will guide them in future challenges.
Kate shared, “Through Samsung Solve for Tomorrow’s mentoring session, I was able to reconsider the relationship with different stakeholders and how I can convince them to support my idea.” This guidance broadened her approach, moving from environmental focus to one that also considered practical implementation.
Catherine further explained how the mentoring course helped them improve their proposal and said, “Mentors not only guided us toward completing our proposals, but they also helped us see in a various perspective, enabling us to avoid blind spots. Through mentoring, we were able to get a new approach for problem-solving.”
After months of hard work, Kate and Catherine’s project earned significant recognition for addressing a common issue with innovation and thorough execution. The jury was particularly impressed with how the students had identified a relevant problem, proposed comprehensive solutions, and remained committed to bringing their product to life. This recognition gave both students the confidence to believe in their ideas and the impact they could have on the world.
“Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is not just a mere competition; it’s a journey that inspires high school students to think innovatively and realize their dreams,” said Tiffany Chen, Head of Marketing Group, Samsung Electronics Taiwan. “We are delighted to be together with students step by step over the years, supporting them in transforming their creativity into concrete actions that address local problems. Through ideas of the sustainability of Taiwan’s unique tea culture, protecting precious marine resources, or caring for the health of the elderly in an aging society, we have witnessed this generation’s deep concern for society and their boundless potential to change the world through technology.”
Looking ahead, Kate and Catherine plan to apply the proposal, practical, and briefing skills they gained from Samsung Solve for Tomorrow to their future studies and business ventures. They also look forward to the possibility of seeing their oil absorbent sheets commercialized and available on the market one day.
