Towards a sustainable Open Data ECOsystem: The ODECO project

Empowering researchers to address the challenges of open data ecosystems

The ODECO project, funded by the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network, is a 4-year initiative aimed at transforming the open data landscape in Europe. Running from October 2021 to September 2025, ODECO focuses on creating a user-driven, circular, and inclusive open data ecosystem. This project brings together 9 leading international universities, research centres, and sixteen partners from industry and the public sector, all working collaboratively to address the challenges of open data fragmentation and reusability.

At the heart of ODECO are fifteen Early-Stage Researchers who are being trained to become the next generation of open data experts. These researchers are engaged in diverse projects that cover various aspects of the open data ecosystem, from enhancing data findability and interoperability to developing new legal frameworks for data sharing. The goal is to unlock the innovative potential of open data, enabling the creation of new value-added services and products.

One of the key objectives of ODECO is to shift from a supplier-driven to a user-driven open data ecosystem. This involves not only improving the technical aspects of data sharing but also ensuring that data is accessible and usable by a wide range of stakeholders, including governments, businesses, and civil society. By using a more inclusive approach, ODECO aims to enhance the overall impact and sustainability of open data initiatives across Europe.

We invite you to contribute to the success of the ODECO project by participating in their 15-minute survey before 14 January 2025. You can give insights on your experience and share which actions, projects, and aspects of non-profit organisations would help you with the problems you have faced.
