iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Following the tips from here 11 Proven Steps to fix iPhone 16 Pro Max Battery Drain Issue I went through the apps individually for access to Siri, I untoggled it for each app as I don't use Siri and made some of the other changes as suggested. After all of this Did a hard reset ( force restart ) of the phone and battery life is much better now

There is no straightforward solution unless Apple actually admits that there is a problem. Best is to go through all the posts and you will realise that none of the options actually work in some cases and even if it works, Battery life will be inferior to I phone 13 pro. I have same problem with 16 pro and it will be 3 months since buying it !

Try everything within 14 days and if doesn't solve the problem -please return the phone.

Instagram and Snapchat are using 37% of your battery. Makes your both are updated to latest version. Many users of both apps are reporting issues. Instagram updated their app twice last week. Snapchat updated twice as well. Lock screen is probably background activity related to recent iOS update. Between those 3 apps nearly 50% of your battery capacity is consumed.

Jeff Donald is spot on. Those apps have been pointed out as consuming too much battery in this post as well as many others and users that have removed them found their battery returning to all day use. It will take an update from those developers to resolve that problem, but until that is done you can expect the same outcome. Apple gives you the option to view the apps that are using up your battery so you can make that decision on whether you want those apps using up your battery or not. Developers have the incentive to use the limited battery resources responsibly as they don't want users to remove them.

Sir , my brother also have 16 pro max and as u said 16 pro max bateery backup is really nice but the problem is with my 16 pro as I uses safari and simple online shopping my iPhone battery decreasing 1% in every 3-4 minutes while using now tell solution for this please as I am very tired from this phone this is first iPhone and have very bad experience till now

Sir . The thing that you are telling to everyone that background app we’re using battery is not true . And if Instagram and Snapchat is using all the battery in ver less time then this problem is facing in all iPhone 16 pro and other iPhone but this baterry drainage problem is related to iPhone not with Instagram so don’t blame Instagram and other apps if they were reason then all iPhone have this problem but only few iPhone have battery draining problem . Soo if u are not having reason kindly get me apple customer care number

For the Lock Screen battery usage, review the Widgets you are using and remove any non standard widgets along with the ones you do not use.

Ironically you also have the known apps installed that have seen the poor battery performance in every post here:

  • Instagram
  • SmapChat
  • WhatsApp


I don't know anything about the tutti.ch app, but the others should be removed and then post the battery usage again. The goal here is to identify the cause of the problem and it obviously is not the device you are using and related to the installed apps. Instagram has been the most prolific problem with its recent updates that affect all devices and iOS versions with the Social Graph of your account being the the largest factor between users who may not see such a dramatic result in battery usage.


I have seen the Camera app using excessive battery, and an iOS update may be able to solve that one, but you have much more going on there. Remove those identified apps and widgets and post your battery usage again.

Lucky you! With my 16 Pro what I did was to:


  1. I went through the initial setup on the day I purchased the phone
  2. Then I connected it to my Mac and performed factory reset (DFU > Restore iPhone)
  3. Used iCloud to login but did not restore the phone from the backup (only iCloud contacts, photos) - I installed apps manually.


Unfortunately, in my case the battery life remains pretty the same. I did the same with 16 Pro Max (returned to the seller), 16 Pro 128 (1st unit - returned to the seller) and with 16 Pro 256 (2nd unit which I don't plan to return). All units were not so effective when it comes to the battery. My average SoT in 16 Pro after 6 days since the first setup is 4-6h + some time when the screen is not active but the phone is working.


I can't believe that this is a unit fault (16 Pro Max and 16 Pro 128 were from September, both unit and battery. My current unit 16 Pro 256 was manufactured in October, both unit and battery). So it ether iOS fault or these phones simply can offer only this battery life in case of my usage pattern.

Telegram is a notorious app for lack of developer support and ineffective updates. Basically, they don’t care. Delete the app and watch your battery improve in 24 to 48 hours.


Lock Screen indicates a lot of background indexing and syncing taking place. Currently, because of Apple Intelligence activity it may take up to 5 days or so for all activities to return to normal.


A forced restart might help with Telegram but I doubt you’ll delete the app.

Apple makes it very clear where the problem is in that graph. With less the 4 hours of Screen Time using the apps, you can see exactly what has consumed your battery not only while using the app, but in the background when it is closed. I don't know how that can be more clear.


You spent $1200 on a phone to install apps that collect your personal information to sell to advertisers and are making far more than that by using you as their product. That is the choice you made. If you don't like it, contact the developer of those apps and see if they care.

Your post shows 18 hours before needing a charge and that is even with Facebook installed where Meta has not yet provided an update to prevent the background processes from consuming the users battery. The background processes are not reflected in Screen Time.


Charge your phone every night using the Optimized Charge setting to learn the charging habits and you are good to go. As for returning your phone, you will want to make that decision soon. Apple did offer extended return times for online purchases over the holidays, but normally you have 14 days. If purchased from another retailer they may have a different return policy.

See for yourself. It is not that difficult to remove those apps and compare your battery usage. Those that have done that have seen a dramatic improvement in their battery performance. Each persons Social Graph is different and will have data points consuming the battery where others will not and also the apps have been updated 11 times in the last month so there is no comparison with the version numbers. The same has been reported on devices other than the iPhone 16 with the latest updates and it is even in the Google support forum showing Instagram as the problem on Android phones.

That is your basic troubleshooting step that has not been done and simply arguing over if they are responsible is not the way you are going to find a solution. If you are simply looking for a contact number for Apple, that is easy and they will have you perform those same steps or more likely a Factory Reset without loading any of those apps.Here you go:

I purchased a new iPhone 16 and had the same issue. I discovered the background app refresh defaulted back to all apps again.


Background App Refresh on an iPhone allows apps to update and check for new content in the background, even when you're not using them. To turn on (or off) Background App Refresh, you can: 

  1. Open Settings 
  2. Select General 
  3. Tap Background App Refresh


I only have a few apps I would like to refresh in the background so I turned the other 100 or so off. Battery life increased dramatically.

After reading this post, what steps have you tried?

  • Reset using computer
  • Force Restart phone
  • Removed the known apps that have caused the problem and compared your results
  • Taken it to Apple for diagnostics


If you have tried those steps and you still find it irritating, I would suggest that you return the phone. In most regions you have 14 days, and you should not keep a device that you are having trouble with.
