Cannot share photos in iOS 18

Since upgrading to iOS 18, I am unable to share some photos. I am on 18.1.1 and the issue remains. I get the message “There was an error while preparing to share. Please try again later”.

This is happening on my iPhone (15 Pro Max) and iPad (Pro 13” M4).

Some photos can be shared without problems. Photos taken on the iPhone are able to be shared. Some photos imported as JPGs from my digital camera can be shared but others cannot; all imported at the same time.

I thought it might be an iCloud issue so logged out of iCloud and logged back in. The issue persists.

On my iPad I have saved originals of my entire photo library. But the issue remains.

I suspect this is a bug but I hope my photos have not been corrupted as they are the originals. I cannot save them to an external hard drive because Share will not send them to the Files app.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Since 18.1.1 I can’t send pics even between iPhones in my family group! I see this issue being reported for earlier releases. You’d think they’d test to ensure this doesn’t happen in newer releases! It’s such a basic function!

the blue line simply stops moving! (And in the past I never even saw the blue line when sending pics.) I ended up sending as text.

I was not at home when I had the issue. I was on the 5G network and couldn’t send pics via the iPhone network.

the blue bar started moving across the screen and then simply stopped. Over an hour later I got the message that they could not be delivered.

Instead, I ended up sending the pics as text messages.

I can't send photos through photo app like all these others, only if I choose a photo while in a text. I also noticed that some Old videos of my kids 20 years ago won't let me hit play, or even show them in my photos- they are grayed out, and the play progression line on the bottom when you click on a random gray one flickers like a strobe light. Weird and I'm worried I can't access all my old memories. Please help!

Photos is a confusing mess, mail doesn’t work right and has unnecessary, space taking icons.

What is this company thinking? They’ve just lost Steve Jobs understanding of making things easier, not harder and more complicated.

We can’t send iPhoto videos from an album but we can send the same video if it isn’t in a video.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Not joking. Seriously. I had the exact same problem as described. Turned my iPhone off and back on and it worked fine

Try turning off FaceTime and power cycling.
