Sony Camcorder not recognized on iMac Sequoia 15.1.1

I attempted to import media to FCP (Sony Camcorder). Prompted with error Thunderbolt Apple accessorie Apple fire wire adapter to Thunderbolt port. I also used the USBC port and still didn't recognize the camera.

So it is a DV or D8 camcorder with Firewire and you have the two adapters below, right? USB is only for images so don't try to use it.

You might also have to restore legacy video device support In Recovery Mode:

system-override legacy-camera-plugins-without-sw-camera-indication=on

It does not hurt to try following the instructions that

Matti linked to above.

The commands worked in Sonoma, and I had heard also at the time that Sonoma did not work with Firewire.

If indeed Sequoia lost support for Firewire, then the commands in question will fail and you will be just as you are now.

But if they work, then you will be back in business.

I was curious to see what happened on my setup using firewire for tape capture.

HDV captured in the usual way directly to FCPro. I did not test DV but that should work.

D8 captured OK using QuickTime.

FCPro capture had continuous breaks, so I didn't bother troubleshooting.

In short, Firewire is still alive in Sequoia 15.2 using FCPro 11.0 on an M1 Mac.

Checking in System Information should reveal is a firewire device has been successfully connected.

If it does not show here there is a connection issue with cable, ports or adapters:

I followed all your instructions on both recovery modes and entered within the terminal the override info, however no luck. I will at some point will have to visit the New Haven store to see if they can assist.

Thanks for your help on this crazy misfortune. I honestly feel that the new AI software could be part the blame for my problems even though firewire is quite dated.

Thanks Again

I am using the same adapters as shown in your above image.

I cannot test an iMac so can't really definitively comment on why it does not work.

Things to check:

Some firewire cables are not completely pinned out, meaning they will never work for tape transfer.

Is your cable plugged into a Thunderbolt port on the back of your iMac? some iMacs have 4 ports.

Have all adapters, ports and cables been verified as working using other equipment?

FYI: I did not do the Terminal Legacy firewire installation as outlined in this thread.

Maybe the Apple boffins have an auto run sequence built-in once a successful firewire connection is made???
