Apple Intelligence worked while I was in China on business (via VPN). Am now back in the States and it says not supported in my region. 16 MaxPro, my account is a US account on US phone service. Also have a China sim in the phone.

Where did you purchase your iPhone? iPhones intended for sale in China do not have Apple Intelligence currently, doesn’t matter the region you have set.
If this is an iPhone intended for sale in US or another region that supports Apple Intelligence, try deleting your VPN.

The country has strict AI regulations. We do not know when iPhones intended for sale in China will receive Apple Intelligence, the answer isn’t no though, and Apple is working to support more countries.

I Need Apple Intelligence
Try changing the language in the Siri & Apple intelligence settings only to United States English. You can use another language as you wish if needed in the region language settings.
