Apple Books will not play Audiobooks on iphone

Phone: iPhone 15 Plus

iOS Version: 18.2

Apple Books Version: Apple Books does not have a version listed, but I am not prompted to update in the apple store

As you can see from the gif, every time I try to open my audio book and play it, it does not work. It just closes the play tab. The audio book is completely unresponsive. Here is what I have tried so far

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it
I deleted the video and re downloaded it
I deleted the video, downloaded it on my Mac, and then downloaded it on the app. This seemed to fix things a couple of times but now is not working

I only started using apple books a week or so ago, and so far it cannot even play audio books.

Apple Apps built into iOS devices cannot be updated separately; they are updated along with iOS version updates. For example, apps like Apple Music, Apple Books, Apple Maps, and Apple Podcasts are deeply integrated with the operating system and rely on iOS updates for their updates.

These apps don’t display version numbers or provide update options in the App Store.

Instead, updates for these apps are bundled with iOS updates, ensuring all system components are tested and deployed together.
