IPhone 14 blocks a whistle during calls

I am a Whistler. I do frequent video calls using WhatsApp and FaceTime with my grandson (a four month old baby!).

One way I used to entertain him whenever I was with him was to whistle to him. And he used to love it!Now, when I try the same on a video call, I realize that my iPhone completely blocks out the whistle sound! I mean completely! it’s almost as if the mute button has been pressed. My voice goes through perfectly fine, but the whistle is completely blocked. I know there is no problem with my microphone since I can record a video with a whistle and the whistle gets recorded perfectly fine. I can then send the recorded video to him using WhatsApp and everything works fine. But the whistle sound is blocked during a live call.

Does anyone know how I can get around this? I need to be able to have a live video call with conversation as well as a whistle sound.

Thanks for any help!

Hi there!

Possible Fix for Whistle Sound Being Blocked on iPhone Calls:

It’s likely due to noise suppression (Voice Isolation). Try this:

1. Enable “Wide Spectrum” (FaceTime Only)

• Start a FaceTime call.

• Open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right).

• Tap Mic Mode and select Wide Spectrum.

2. Use a Wired or Bluetooth Microphone (AirPods or wired headset).

3. Try a Different App (Zoom or Skype may not block the whistle).

4. Change the Pitch of Your Whistle (higher/lower may work).

5. Record and Send Instead (since recordings work fine).

Hope this helps!
