National Inspectorates - Portugal

The responsibility of enforcement activities with respect to REACH, CLP, BPR, POP and PIC Regulations are laid down in the national legislation implementing the Regulations respectively.

The national enforcement authorities deal with issues relating to the environment, consumer products, safety and health, and are responsible for ensuring compliance with REACH, CLP, BPR, POP, and PIC Regulations, within their respective spheres of responsibility.

Authorities responsible for REACH and CLP enforcement:

  • The General Inspectorate for Agriculture, the Sea, the Environment and Spatial Planning (IGAMAOT) focusing on substances manufacturers, substances importers and formulators.
  • The Authority for the Economy and Food Safety (ASAE) focusing on distributors, wholesalers and retailers.
  • The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) focusing on importers.

Authority responsible for BPR enforcement:

  • Authority for the Economy and Food Safety (ASAE)

Authority responsible for POP enforcement:

  • The General Inspectorate for Agriculture, the Sea, the Environment and Spatial Planning (IGAMAOT) 
  • The Authority for the Economy and Food Safety (ASAE) 
  • The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) 

Authorities responsible for PIC enforcement:

  • The General Inspectorate for Agriculture, the Sea, the Environment and Spatial Planning (IGAMAOT)
