Chief Economic Analyst Team
The Chief Economic Analyst (CEA) and the CEA Team have a key role to play in the implementation of the EU economic and budgetary surveillance policies. Namely to "verify, in the field of coordination and surveillance of the economic and budgetary policies of the Member States, in particular of the euro area, forthcoming Commission decisions and their analytical base, in particular with regard to the uniform application of the rules, the follow-up methodology and consistency with precedents."
The Chief Economic Analyst mandate is defined by Decision of the President of the European Commission of 27 October 2011 on the Vice-President responsible for economic and monetary affairs and the Euro- C(2011)8000
The CEA acts independently and brings his findings and recommendations to the attention of the Vice-President and his Cabinet as well as of the Director-General and Deputy Director General for the relevant area. The President and the Vice-President may request opinions from the CEA.
