Barcelona gets new building for Alzheimer’s research

EU funding enabled the construction of cutting-edge facilities for Spain’s Pasqual Maragall Foundation, which carries out world-class Alzheimer’s research and helps people affected by the disease, including caregivers and relatives. Located in Barcelona, Catalonia, the new building – which was also equipped with EU support - houses 90 foundation employees, 60 of whom are directly involved in scientific research.

Slovakia’s EkoPellets increases recovery of non-hazardous, biodegradable waste

Slovakian wood pellet and briquette manufacturer EkoPellets improved its sawdust processing line by acquiring new equipment with the help of EU funding. The technology increased the company’s competitiveness and answered to an increasing demand for waste recovery. The recovery of sawdust reduces its impact on the environment in the form of illegal dumps or by ending up on landfills.

Turning green waste into quality compost in Handlová, Slovakia

Through the construction of a biologically degradable waste composting facility, the Slovak town of Handlová has improved municipal waste prevention, recycling and recovery. The town also acquired waste containers, collection vehicles and equipment for waste processing inside the facility. The project has led to several new jobs, both for the facility and through the services it is providing for the municipality.

Promoting environmentally sustainable development in three Slovak municipalities

An association of Slovak municipalities in the east of the country acquired 1 754 garden composters to ensure biologically degradable municipal waste does not end up on landfills. This was accomplished through a jointly developed strategy aimed at regional sustainable development and with the help of EU structural funds.
