How to enhance animal health and welfare to reduce the need for antibiotics? What are the alternatives to antibiotics? How to change human habits, attitudes and behaviour in order to reduce the use of antibiotics in livestock production?

Developing and exploring integrated strategies to reduce the use of antibiotics to protect health and welfare (more and more multi-resistant bacteria strains occur in both animals and humans).

Looking into alternative treatments (e.g. adapted housing systems, feeding, use of herbs).

Analysing the economic implications cost/benefit, competitiveness, risk).

Considering veterinary aspects.

Reviewing the impact of genetics and the chain from food processors to the consumer.

Exploring the scope for cross fertilisation to dairy/poultry practices.
