Support to the initial licensing and re-accreditation of further education institutions in Malta at their EQAVET peer review

The peer review was the opportunity for the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority to discuss their draft ‘external quality assurance accreditation manual for further education institutions’ with EQAVET members in the view of finalising it

A pile of colourful books.

The Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) hosted their online peer review on 4-5 December 2024, focusing on the newly drafted ‘external quality assurance accreditation manual for further education institutions’. Six EQAVET Network members from the French Community of Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, Italy and Romania acted as peer reviewers.

Following a review of the quality assurance system, the MFHEA is in the process of separating their further and higher education sectors, including by developing separate guidance. The peer review focused on the manual for further education institutions which aims to support the initial licensing and subsequent re-accreditation and simplify the system. The manual describes the required standards and different stages (preparation, audit and post-audit).

The peer review was the opportunity to discuss the draft manual and how to improve it before its finalisation. Peers reflected on the scope of the seven evaluation areas and their potential gaps, the quality descriptors at licensing stage, as well as the re-accreditation process.

Read the flash report summarising the main outcomes of the discussion.

Additionally, a separate report containing detailed feedback from the peer reviewers will be shared with the host country.
