Europass is the European tool to manage your skills and plan your learning and your career. As a framework of online tools and information it helps people to communicate their skills, qualifications and experiences to take the next step in their career.

The Europass platform was relaunched on 1 July 2020 as one of the flagship actions of the Skills Agenda.

With Europass users can:

  • create a profile to record all their skills, qualifications and experiences
  • add files (documents, diplomas, images) to a personal library so that their information and documents are all available in one secure location
  • receive tailored suggestions of jobs (via EURES) and learning opportunities based on their experiences, interests and skills registered in their profile
  • prepare CVs and cover letters using the online editor to create applications for jobs and learning opportunities
  • share a link to their profile with employers, recruiters, guidance professionals or education and training institutions
  • access information on learning and working in Europe including links to national services provided by Member States
  • organise and manage their applications for job and learning opportunities
  • take a digital skills self-assessment test to understand their digital skills level measured in the context of five key competency areas.
  • discover in-demand skills and occupations across Europe with the job and skill trends tool and make informed decisions about their learning and career paths

European Digital Credentials for Learning

As part of the Europass framework, the Commission has developed a set of software and services for education and training institutions to issue authentic, tamper-proof digital credentials (e.g. qualifications, diplomas, certificates). European Digital Credentials for Learning can support ‘paperless’ processes and easier recognition and understanding of qualifications and credentials across the EU.

Europass also offers a number of document templates to support the communication of skills and qualifications:

  • the Europass Certificate Supplement issued by the authorities that award vocational educational and training certificates, to add further information on these certificates so as to make them more easily understood
  • the Europass Diploma Supplement issued by higher education institutions to their graduates along with their degree or diploma to make these educational qualifications more easily understood
  • the Europass Mobility for recording any organised period of time that a person spends in another European country for the purpose of learning

How is Europass managed?

In April 2018, the revised Europass Decision was adopted by the Council and European Parliament. The Decision sets out the goal of Europass to offer intuitive, modern tools that reflect people's needs in the context of today's labour market and education and training systems.

The Europass platform, launched on 1 July 2020, continues to evolve with new digital tools and other improvements in the context of the implementation of the Europass Decision. The Commission co-operates with Members States, participating countries and labour market and education and training stakeholders to implement the Europass Decision.
