We are excited to share new competitions that will launch throughout the next three weeks of Hackster Holidays! In order to participate in these competitions, you will need to verify your Hackster account.
First up is the Junk Drawer Competition, launching on Monday, December 9th! The Junk Drawer Competition challenges you to wrap up your procrastinated projects and finish 2024 strong. Whether it’s a half-finished robot, a DIY gadget, or an ambitious invention you’ve been dreaming about, this is your chance to dust it off and make it a reality. We’re celebrating the creativity and perseverance it takes to turn forgotten ideas into tangible creations.
The Board Designer Competition challenges you to design and create a printed circuit board (PCB) that stands out in terms of innovation, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. Whether it’s a compact board for a wearable device, a high-performance SBC, or an artistic PCB that doubles as a functional piece of art, we want to see your best designs come to life.
The Machine Builder Competition is an open challenge to design and build a machine that stands out for its innovation, functionality, and creativity. Whether it’s a robot solving everyday problems, an automated art installation, a unique mechanical device, or any other inventive machine, we want to see your best ideas come to life.
We're excited to introduce you to Challenges, a new type of contest that connect you directly with brands looking for your expertise. Challenges connect you with brands seeking your expertise through project requests or “bounties.” Submit a proposal quickly, as spots fill fast, and if selected, complete the project and publish it on Hackster to earn the payout. Outstanding submissions may also receive a cash bonus.
First up is the Sonic Sprint: BLE Audio Design Challenge, launching on Wednesday, December 11th! Calling designers and engineers currently working with Bluetooth audio to submit a concept/product proposal! A successful proposal will include a full schematic design in Autodesk Fusion, integrating the Nordic nRF54L SoC, and a PCBA quote through PCBWay. Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis, so pitch your idea NOW!
Next up is the Maker Train Experience Challenge! This is your chance to collaborate with Nordic Semiconductor and Hackster.io to deliver an unforgettable hands-on technical workshop aboard the Maker Train Experience at the Fab25 conference in the Czech Republic.
This challenge is exclusively available to Hackster PRO members.
Ribbit Network, Nordic Semiconductor, and PCBWay are excited to present the Power Hop Design Challenge —an opportunity for developers to propose and design a self-sustaining environmental sensor ("PRO" Frog Sensor) to contribute to an open-source, global climate observation network.
To enter the Hackster Holidays Giveaway, you need to fill out the giveaway entry form. You will also need to verify your Hackster account. See official Terms & Conditionsfor details on what must be included in a valid entry and for full giveaway timeline and submission deadlines.
How do I choose my preferred prize(s)?
When you register for the Giveaway, you will have the option to select up to three (3) preferred prizes. Prize winners are selected at random from the list of eligible entries received prior to each drawing period. Only one prize will be awarded per person, per household. If your name is drawn as a prize winner, your name will be removed from subsequent daily prize drawings, but you will be eligible for the final grand prize Giveaway.
Who is eligible to participate?
You must be at least the minimum age of majority in your place of residence at the time of entry.
You must be a citizen of and reside in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States or Vietnam.
You must have a verified Hackster user account.
You must not be involved in the execution or administration of this Giveaway or an immediate family member or household member of a Hackster or Avnet employee.
How do I know if I won?
Winners will be contacted via the email or address submitted in their entry on or before the 10th of the month January 2025.
How do I earn Giveaway entries?
You can earn Giveaway entries through daily website engagements, participating in competitions and challenges, and completing the other Hackster Holidays activities, including the Hackster Community Survey.
Daily Website Engagements: You earn up to five (5) points max per day by doing one (1) action five (5) times or a mixture of all actions for five (5) total points. Each of the following actions are worth one point: liking a project, liking a news article, posting a discussion post, or posting a comment.
Participating in Competitions and Challenges: You can submit a maximum of one (1) proposal per Challenge for five (5) points per proposal. You can submit a maximum of three (3) entries for the Junk Drawer Competition for ten (10) points per entry.
Other Hackster Holidays activities: There will be additional yet-to-be-announced activities throughout Hackster Holidays worth a variety of points, including participating in the Hackster Member Survey 2024.
How long does it take to get verified?
Our verification process is new and due to the large influx of users to review and verify, this process can take up to three weeks (21 days). In the future, we hope to reduce this to one week or less (7 days). In the meantime, users are still able to participate in Hackster giveaways, competitions, and challenges without being verified as long as a user has filled out the verification form.
How will I know if I am verified user?
You will gain a verification badge on your Hackster account and receive additional notification.
Why do I need to get verified to participate in giveaways, competitions, and challenges?
Verification is required to participate in any Hackster program where we may send items or rewards to you. This allows for faster export compliance checks and streamlined shipping processes. By verifying your identity, citizenship and residency, you will also gain a verification badge on your account and access to participate in giveaways, competitions, challenges, and more - including personalized opportunities that align with your interests and goals.
