- Jetset ExtraApril 2, 2015Nowhere else on earth can you get as close to the power of a volcano as you can here, where Kilauea still smolders, steam vents spew sulfur, and lava flows consume the road. Read moreUpvoted 2 weeks ago
- Brodie OlmsteadDecember 10, 2016Great hiking and breathtaking sights. There's lots to see and do do stop by the visitor center for guides and tips. Be sure to ask if you're able to hike to the lava flow!
- hooeyspewer .August 18, 2014Dress in layers as the temp changes with elevation and wear good shoes for hiking - you're going to want to hike. See as much of this park as you can because it's one of a kind and worth every moment.Upvoted 4 weeks ago
- Casey AndersonNovember 1, 2018The top attraction in Hawaii, here you can learn about the volcanoes that created our islands. Although the lava might not be flowing, steam vents and sulfur banks remind you of the power underground.
- Joe StainbrookOctober 1, 2014There are a lot of things to do here, so do as much as you can with the time you have! Get a map from the visitor center to help plan your visit. And your car pass is good for a week, so come back!
- Jimmy KastnerSeptember 26, 2014If you want to take a picture of the lava glow and stars at night, you will need a tripod. No, your cellphone and iPad won't capture anything... Using an iPad for photography is ridiculous anyway.
- 𝙶𝚘𝚗𝚣𝚊𝚕𝚘 𝙰𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚊𝚜December 1, 2023Extremely well worth spending the whole day or as long as you possibly can here. Great hikes. Great views. Great learning
- Wai Kit LaiJune 1, 2014Good and friendly staffs here. Tailored itinerary (2 hours, 4 hours and etc) helps us to cover the good spots with limited time. Well manage national park.
- It's open 24 hours. So try coming at night to see the stars! If the moon is full, it adds an iridescent glow to the craters.
- Martin KunzAugust 20, 2019Amazing views. Quite big for a day visit. A car is a nessesity. Nice postcards in the visitor center. Some of the trails are closed because of vulcanic activity.
- Ju LeDecember 5, 2018A breathtaking view over the crater and all these steams! If you watch the 6 minute Video in the visitor center you can imagine what Mother Nature did over here. Sadly a lot of hikes were closed.
- EceFebruary 5, 2018The best national park ever, hands down! Such a unique experience to hike around lava fields and see the lava meeting ocean! Must-go!!!
- Jeiran HasanOctober 24, 2015What an amazing national park! Unlike anything else this country has to offer so if you can, you must try to make a trip out here. You'll be disappointed if you don't
- Di KadyrovaAugust 1, 2015Our best experience in Hawaii - better go in the morning to avoid crowds. The 4-mile hike to volcano crater was amazing (starts opposite the entrance to lava tubes)
- eric bornemannMay 28, 2023Spectacular park regardless of if the lava is flowing or not. Such diversity in terrain and activities. Be sure to spend more than a day.
- MarvinOctober 17, 2017Tip: Really take the bike or ensure you're wearing good walking shoes. It's a REALLY long walk on uneven ground. Also remember you'll need to walk back too.
- Erin McCueMay 6, 2013We did the Kilauea Iki hike across the crater, Thurston lava tube, and drove down to the end of Chain of Craters road. Leave lots of time! Buy the ponchos for $3.95 and use the rest of your trip.
- Andrew FullerMarch 22, 2014Great trails! We spent a day here, barely putting a dent in the amount of things to do! Get a stainless steel water bottle and refill it with the naturally purified rain water.
- Jimmy KastnerSeptember 26, 2014While some of the trails here might appear to be easy to moderate, I would suggest bringing the right shoes, lots of water, and sunscreen. The terrain is very rough and the wind is relentless.
- Justin SullivanDecember 2, 2014Bring your hiking shoes. Drive down Chain of Craters for the Petroglyphs and Lava covering the old road. Also prepare for chilly and wet weather. Lots of long sleeved clothing sold here.
- Richard BowersAugust 30, 2014Bring water bottles and sunscreen. No beverages for sale, except at the bottom of the road to the ocean. Get a map at the visitor center, and do everything you have time to do.
- Rafael GarciaNovember 6, 2015Don't leave the park until dawn or you Gina miss the glowing lava lake spectacular view in front of the jaggar museum
- Terry SJune 27, 2012Visit in the evening to see the volcano glow. Thurston Lava Tube is a must. Walk through a tube which formerly carried liquid-hot magma! Also, bring a jacket, as much of the area is rainy.
- Noah WeissDecember 27, 2020Unreal national park 17 make sure to stay post dusk for the apocalyptic lights
- Abhishek BanthiaApril 24, 2021Your receipt is valid for 7 days so if you can always come back in case you’ve missed something.
- Jessica HalloranMarch 5, 2016Wait til dusk to watch the active crater glow. Bring binoculars or a telescope to see the lava splash.
- Don CorbettAugust 13, 2013Had dinner at 7:30pm. Got there early to ask for a window seat. Restaurant was good, but better view from little room outside the restaurant or bar - recommend going there closer to 8-8:30 PM
- Ciro NigriOctober 11, 2014Fantastic, there's something from everyone; short to long hikes into craters, scenic drive "crater road" is amazing. Plan 2 days minimum.
- Niki Katherine HolmesNovember 29, 2014Drive to the end of Chain of Craters Road for spectacular views of the stone arch in the sea.
- Meg FarmerOctober 7, 2014Definitely worth the trip if you have time on the big island. be sure to catch the lava glow at night.

- Dana D.March 19, 2014Go back at sunset to watch the glow of the magma slowly start to appear in the steam. Amazing!
- Allison KaminskiOctober 16, 2015Check out the steam vents, lava tubes and hike to the volcanos. I could spend days here!!
- Patrick KirbyNovember 9, 2014Come between dusk and 7:00pm to see the volcano exhibit and then the real thing
- Hiedi ENovember 23, 2012The lava flow crossing the road is probably my favorite part. As a geologist, I wish I could have seen more but most of the road was closed. :(
- Jimmy KastnerSeptember 26, 2014There are far too many trails to do it all in a day. You will need at least three days to take as much of it in.
- Condé Nast TravelerMay 10, 2016Erupting since 1983, Kilauea is one of Earth's most spectacular phenomena. Read more
- Mark BrumleyJune 22, 2014Take a jacket. And spend the money and take a helicopter tour, after you see the park.
- ChrisJanuary 6, 2014Bring rain gear and a sweatshirt! It's much cooler and wetter on this part of the island.
