In the framework of the new EU strategy against Illicit Firearms, Small Arms & Light Weapons and their Ammunition (the so-called “Securing Arms, Protecting Citizens” strategy, or “EU SALW Strategy”), the European Union supports the “Arms and Ammunition Management Validation System” project aiming to establish an internationally recognised validation system of policies and practices for the safe and secure management of SALW and ammunition.
During Phase I, in the first year of the implementation, a feasibility study for the development of an internationally recognised Arms and Ammunition Management Validation System ('AAMVS') has been undertaken to investigate options for appropriate methodologies and tools for the assessment of risk and quality.
During Phase II, based on the outcome of the feasibility study of Phase I, the Ammunition Management Advisory Team (AMAT) focused on bringing together the various expertise needed to develop the technical and operational features of the Arms and Ammunition Management Validation System (AAMVS).
