LinkedIn in Microsoft Applications with Your Work or School Account

If your organization has enabled it, you can connect your LinkedIn and Microsoft work or school accounts. After you've connected your accounts, you'll have access to your LinkedIn professional network within some Microsoft apps and services, and your LinkedIn experience will become more relevant and tailored to your work.

For example, you can gain insights on things you have in common with people you went to the same school as, without having to leave some Microsoft apps or services and go to LinkedIn. Or, when communicating with a colleague on Outlook, you can easily send an invitation to connect, or see if you and that colleague share a common connection on LinkedIn. Over time, you can also expect your networking experience on LinkedIn to be improved and enriched with information from your Microsoft account. For example, if you frequently meet with or receive email from a coworker, LinkedIn may suggest that you connect with that coworker.

Note: These features will be gradually rolled out to our members and may not be available to everyone at this time. This information pertains to connecting your LinkedIn and Microsoft work or school account only.

Permission to share data between your accounts

If you choose to connect accounts, you have two options:

Give permission to share data between both accounts. This means that you give permission for your LinkedIn account to share data with your Microsoft work or school account, as well as your Microsoft work or school account to share data with your LinkedIn account.
Give permission to share data only from your LinkedIn account to your Microsoft work and school account.

Note: If you choose to only share data from your LinkedIn account to your Microsoft work and school account, then your experience on LinkedIn will not be personalized with data from your Microsoft work or school account. When you use LinkedIn features within Microsoft services, search-specific data will be sent to LinkedIn in order to provide you with relevant content and search results. For example, LinkedIn can use the information provided on one of your Outlook contact’s profile cards to help you find that person on LinkedIn.

Sharing LinkedIn data from your LinkedIn account with your Microsoft work or school account

When you connect your LinkedIn account to your Microsoft work or school account, you allow LinkedIn to provide the following data to be used in Microsoft apps and services that your organization provides:

Profile data - includes your LinkedIn identity, contact information, and the information you share with others on your LinkedIn profile.
Interests data - includes your interests on LinkedIn, such as people and topics you follow, courses you view, your groups, and content you like and share.
Subscriptions data - includes your subscriptions to LinkedIn applications and services along with associated data.
Connections data - includes your LinkedIn network including profiles and contact information of your 1st-degree connections.

LinkedIn data is used to customize the experience within your organization's Microsoft apps and services. Your organization doesn't store the LinkedIn data that enables customized experiences, but as with other services you connect to your organization-owned account, your organization may be able to access and audit the connected services and data pursuant to its data use and privacy policies.

Sharing data from your Microsoft work or school account with your LinkedIn account

When you connect your Microsoft work or school account to your LinkedIn account, you allow Microsoft to provide the following data to LinkedIn:

Profile data - includes your account information, your photo, and contact information.
Calendar data - includes the meetings in your calendars, their times, locations, and attendees.
Interests data - includes the interests associated with your account, based on your use of Microsoft services.
Subscriptions data - includes subscriptions provided by your organization to Microsoft apps and services, such as Office365.
Contacts data - includes your contact lists in Outlook, Skype, and other Microsoft account services, including the contact information for people you frequently communicate or collaborate with. Your contacts will be periodically imported, stored, and used by LinkedIn, for example to suggest connections, help you organize your contacts, and show you updates about your contacts.

The data you share from your Microsoft work or school account is used to customize the LinkedIn experience. For example, if you frequently meet with or receive email from a coworker, LinkedIn may suggest that you connect to that coworker.

Your work or school email

LinkedIn messages and notifications won't be delivered to your organization email address unless it's already the primary email address you're using for LinkedIn. LinkedIn will never email anyone without your permission.

Your control

If you want to stop sharing data, you'll need to remove data sharing permissions by disconnecting your accounts. There are two ways to do this:

If you gave permission to share data from both accounts, you'll have to disconnect and remove permissions both from your LinkedIn account and from your Microsoft work or school account.
If you gave permission to share data only from LinkedIn to your Microsoft work or school account, you only have to disconnect and remove permissions from your LinkedIn account.

Important: Contacts that have been imported to LinkedIn from your Microsoft work or school account will persist on LinkedIn until you remove them.

Note: If your LinkedIn settings allow it, your public profile will still be visible in Microsoft applications after you disconnect your accounts. LinkedIn members can control how their profile is viewed through LinkedIn privacy settings, including whether their profile can be viewed in Microsoft applications.
