The European Migration Network (EMN) Hungary High-Level Presidency Conference on effective return policies, is set to take place today in Budapest, Hungary. The event, scheduled for November 25-26 aims to address the need for a humane and effective return policy within the European Union (EU) to ensure the proper functioning of the migration and asylum system and the Schengen area. 

Conference Objectives

The conference focuses on improving the quality and effectiveness of return procedures for individuals without the legal right to stay in the EU. It brings together key stakeholders, including EMN National Contact Points (NCPs), EU and national policymakers, EU agencies, and representatives from the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The event is hosted by the Hungarian Ministry of Interior. ​ The conference will feature several thematic panels addressing various aspects of return policies.

This high-level conference promises to provide valuable insights, concrete ideas, and good practices to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of return policies within the EU, contributing to a more credible and functional migration and asylum system.
