The main problem with Pettracer is the radio connection between the collar and the base station. They advise to put it by a window and as high as possible. What I found was that our house is sufficient to block the radio signal, so that there is good coverage on one side and very bad coverage on the other. That’s really not good enough for a £320 two year contract. Fundamentally it wasn’t working. The literature vaguely described a means to improve the ariel response, which made me look around. The radio is 433MHz so I had a look at external ariels. It’s a small SMA cable which has a 0.25” screw thread. I found out that a low gain omni directional ariel is needed, low gain means it accepts signal from any direction. High gain is only good for a known direction. So for £45 I found an arial on Amazon and also a 5 extension cable so that I could mount the arial on the roof! We have a bungalow so it’s not a big deal. Ling story short, it works. Way better than with the supplied ariel. Now I can pick up a signal in any direction around the house. The main reason for choosing Pettracer was the shape of the collar. Unlike all others it is moulded into the shape of a complete collar. All others have a big clunky box that seems to big. The collar is just fine for my small cat, and she is petite. I didn’t even need the additional padding strip to make the collar a closer fit. I’ve been using it about 8 or 10 days and it is working reasonably well. I say reasonably because the GPS signal disappears fairly often and I don’t really know why. She could be under cover. Also the position is not reliable. It shows her in a postion I know for a fact is 50 metres away from where she is, and that happens a bit too often. It makes me wonder just how much I can rely on the position. However, it is reassuring to know where she is for most of the time. I’ve not seen any other reviews remarking about the poor radio connectivity, but I would be surprised if the arial that comes with the bas station would work effectively enough for many people. Maybe if you can get it upstairs in a two storey house it may work, but I would still wonder if the reception would only be good on one side of the house. More reviews would help.

My cat, Norris Mc Norris, has had his collar over a year now, and I can fully attest to the brilliance of the company and the kit.

I live very rurally and on two occasion
s the collar has become detached from the cat, likely due to having being caught in brambles to undo the collar, then falling off on his way home.

I simply waited til it was dark then made my way out to the last position the collar reported.

I then set off the collars LED and found it quite quickly soon after.

I have now added some reflective tape to the inside and outside of the collar, so if it comes off again, then a sweep with a torch will also help to locate the collar quickly.

I also have used the function where you can use the home base to find a lost cat.

He hadn't come home several hours after his usual time and the location had also not updated either.

I set up the home base with my phones wifi so I could "go mobile" and went out to the last reported position. I soon saw the collars strength improving as we got near to the cat.

Tip, connect the base station to a battery bank to make it portable.

We soon found him up a tree where he had sought refuge from something that had spooked him.

It was the same tree I had rescued him from before, but last time it was dark and I had turned on the LED which I saw from 200 meters away.

Another Tip for rescuing your cat, take a carrier with you.
Much easier than carrying them back in your arms, especially if they are frightened.

A recent break down of the collar was dealt with by James at Pet Tracer quickly and efficiently with zero fuss.

I was very grateful for this, as the cat was without his collar and I have become very used to knowing where he is at all times.

Highly Recommended! 👍

I have found the customer support excellent. I had technical issues getting set up but petTracer helped get me online and tracking my cat in no time. The collar looks great, and doesn't seem to bother a cat who has not worn anything for the first two years of her life. Moving to a new location prompted my purchase. It is interesting to find out where my cat travels to and gives great peace of mind. I loved the fact it had a radio search function also, although I cant quite get that working well, but Im sure if I got in touch petTracer would explain what I am probably doing wrong!

PetTracer is an excellent product which gives me peace of mind considering how much my cat likes to roam! But even if he didn't roam far, or if you have a house cat that had a tendency to escape I think it's a great product.

Make sure you familiarize yourself thoroughly with all of the useful information that gets sent through.

It takes a bit of getting used to and working out what it can and cannot do but when you do I think you will be very satisfied.

Couldn't recommend it more highly

Peace of mine!

Finally get to experience the excellency of this product after 2.5 years of subscription. Merely because my three cats have been homebound for 10 years prior moving to UK, and semi homebound for the past 2.5 years.

Recently took them on a road trip for 2 weeks with the home station connected to my smartphone. I let them roam free just now, the Bengal decided to venture around a bit too far and probably could hear me calling. I loaded the app, activated Search Mode and date and time to last 5 mins, right away it showed that his in the street corner about 50m away. I walked over there and called, sure enough he's in someone's garden came running to the fence meowing.

I feel lot more confident now letting them roam around knowing they are never too far out of reach.

Thank you for creating such amazing product. Highly highly recommended, especially for cats that are not accustomed to free roaming.

Also, over the past 2 years, everytime I sent a question to Pettracer, their responses were always prompt and professional.

This collar gives me peace of mind

This collar gives me peace of mind. My cat is a wanderer and stays away for up to 48 hrs so to have an idea of exactly where she is is very reassuring. The collar is not at all bulky and seems comfortable. The product support is excellent - even out of office hours. Delighted with the product and service. Thank you 👍

Excellent product, great customer service

I bought a PetTracer after our cat disappeared for 5 weeks. The first unit had a fault but the customer service from James White was brilliant in identifying the issue and immediately despatching a replacement and then helping me remotely with the set up.
The new unit is working brilliantly and now we know where our cat is at all times which is wonderfully reassuring!

Brilliant

I absolutely love this collar. It’s not huge and bulky like the others, which, I think, look uncomfortable for kitty. It’s also not just GPS. So if they get themselves somewhere without signal, you can still use the base to find them. Perfect for adventure kitty.
The customer service has been amazing. Super fast replies and solutions.
I can’t rate this collars highly enough.

Great cat tracker

If you want a tracker for your cat, especially if you live in an area with no mobile phone coverage, this is a great product. The collar is light, doesn’t bother our cat at all, and the app makes it easy to track where your cat is. The customer support is excellent as well.

Peace of mind!

Customer services are so helpful and the collar works so well. I now know that my elderly cat keeps fairly close to home and as he's getting quite frail I feel like I could go to get him if he didn't come home. Thank you for all your help! Highly recommended!

It really is a pleasure dealing with Pettracer.

Long time user. The collars work well and the battery life is decent (I need to charge it about once a week). Whenever there has been a need to contact Pettracer, your customer service has been truly excellent. That's what sets you apart. Subscription renewal, issue with the collar (you just replaced it no quibbles), all it took was a quick email and you are immediately dealing with a human with authority to make decisions and help. It really is a pleasure dealing with you, and your product is great.

First time cat owner…

As a first time cat owner I have nothing to compare with, however, I am more that happy with the service provided by petTracer and their support team. I was unaware that tracking your cat was thing until I was getting on my own nerves stressing when my tiny cat kept insisting on leaving the perimeters of the safety of the back garden. After hitting the google search button I was amazed by the multiple types of tracker all of which looked big and bulky. I came across petTracer which looked like like an ordinary cat collar. It was more expensive than others but it didn't have a bulky box attached. This, for me was the selling point.

I made the purchase. The collar was lightweight and un-invasive and it was easy enough to set up, and off he went. My little cat was happy and I was happy. I knew exactly where he was. One day he trotted in without his collar and although I knew its exact location it was unable to be retrieved.

I approached the support team to purchase a replacement collar. They offered me a refurbished collar, which worked out a bit cheaper
but still comes with a two year warranty. I asked for an inlay to make the collar a better fit as well as some reflective tape which they provided at no extra cost. It was a small gesture that I didn't expect, so thank you.

The collar had already set up when it arrived and all I had to do was put it in the home station before putting it on the cat. I did have a few minor glitches and once again I contacted the support team. Emails, which were personal and not robotic, went on for a couple of days with clear instructions of what I needed to do while they observed. This went on well into the evening and was picked up again early the next morning. The issue appears to be resolved and all is well again.

petTracer make you feel like your cat is as important to them as it is to you.

The best trackers ever!

I have had two collars for my cats for a while now and am absolutely loving them. I lost my last cat in an accident on a nearby road and we didn't find her until the next day so spent a sleepless night worrying and searching for her. Then one of our new cats went missing for 3 days. I was frantic! When he finally came home I decided I couldn't cope with not knowing where they were. So after researching all the various pet trackers I chose PetTracer as it uses both radio and gps tracking. This is useful as we live next to a farm with lots of outbuildings and in a wood where gps signal can be patchy. The collars have been absolutely amazing. They have come off a few times but I've always managed to track and locate them, even when one was under a tree root! Customer service is first class - help is always on hand and they respond super quickly. Lovely, lovely people to deal with! I wholeheartedly recommend PetTracer 100%! You have given me peace of mind and my cats are a little bit safer now on their travels 😍 Thank you so much!

THE best tracker for your Cat

I spent weeks researching cat trackers after KimChi, our 1 year old British Short hair had a miss hap. Came home in the early hours with an injury to his leg. The quality, size and weight of the Pettracer is excellent. KimChi got used to it within 30 mins and now waits patiently for it to be put on before he's let out to explore. Interactions with the Pettracer team have been prompt, friendly and informative. Delivery was within 2 days and setup was quick and easy. We've placed the Homestation on our 3rd floor under a velux window which gives great results. Software on PC or mobile App are good and give accurate and frequent positioning updates, depending on the setting chosen. Battery lasts 3 days on the "fast" setting or weeks if you reduce the update frequency. The peace of mind Pettracer now gives me is priceless with the added bonus of radio tracking that most competitors don't have I can find KimChi if he doesn't arrive home at his normal bedtime 😊 Highly recommended.

Wouldnt be without it

We had two kittens 11 months ago, we live in a pretty rural area and so both have free access to the outdoors. One of them went missing a month ago and despite our best efforts we've not seen head nor tail of her since.

Desperate not to let this happen again we bought a PetTracer collar for her sister. She wears it almost all of the time, except for when we're charging it or I giver her a break from it in the evenings. It gives us so much comfort knowing where she goes and although we often can't live track her due to the amount of trees around us, its fascinating to see where she has been once she comes back into gps range. This also means that we know her favourite places to visit so if she does goes missing we have a good starting point.

We have tested making the home station mobile once and although my husband couldn't see Raven (she was in a huge amount of undergrowth), he could hear her, so we're confident that if we did need to find her this way, we could. I have also been in contact with the help team twice during our initial set up and they were really helpful, couldn't fault them at all.

Absolutely recommend this collar, the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is I feel it would be handy to have some way of getting notifications of when she comes in to the house and when she leaves again (I quite often check the app whilst out at work) There is a "show cat is home" feature on the app but as far as I can see this only works if the collar is in the charger.
