Description

Malnutrition is both a manifestation and a central driver of poverty and inequalities. In 2012 the EU made the overarching pledge to support partner countries’ efforts to reduce the number of stunted children under the age of five in 2025 by at least 7 million. A decade since the launch of its Action Plan on Nutrition, the EU is looking forward to the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit that will take place in Paris on 27 and 28 March 2025. With the world at a pivotal moment in advancing the nutrition agenda, this multi-stakeholder summit aims to mobilise the international community to improve nutrition and thereby contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Previous progress reports have tracked the development in reduction of child stunting and the EU’s success in meeting an earlier financial pledge of €3.5 billion, covering the period 2014-2020. This 8th progress report provides an opportunity to assess progress against the most recent financial pledge of €2.5 billion for the period 2021-2024, made at the 2021 N4G Summit in Tokyo. Based on 2021-2022 data and preliminary data for 2023, the EU has already met its promise: commitments with a nutrition objective in the first three years alone amounted to €4.4 billion. Of this total, €3.1 billion is development aid and €1.3 billion is humanitarian aid. This exceeds the 2021 pledge by €1.9 billion.
