Communicating complex datasets: Integrating real-time data for urban insights [WORKSHOP]

Published on: 11/09/2024 Event

In this workshop, we will explore the fundamentals of data visualisation, focusing on how to effectively communicate complex datasets. Participants will learn to integrate and visualise real-time data, a crucial skill for understanding urban dynamics and environmental conditions. This workshop will demonstrate these concepts through a practical use case involving real-time traffic and air quality monitoring, using the tools available on the BDTI platform.

All the tools used during these workshops are available for free to EU public administrations through the BDTI platform. Learn how to apply for BDTI here.

The use case will show how to combine traffic and air quality data to provide a comprehensive view of the urban environment. This data integration not only highlights the current state of urban mobility and environmental health but also supports the identification of critical areas needing intervention, such as lack of green spaces in highly congested or polluted zones. This information can help public administrations make data-driven decisions to improve urban living conditions.

What you’ll get from this workshop:

  • A foundational understanding of data visualisation techniques and tools
  • Hands-on experience in integrating and visualising real-time data
  • Skills in managing data storage and processing using platforms like MINIO, PostgreSQL, and Apache Spark
  • Insights into creating interactive dashboards with Apache Superset
  • Knowledge of automating data workflows using Apache Airflow
  • Practical applications of data visualisation in public sector decision-making, particularly in urban planning and environmental management

Who should join?

This workshop is ideal for professionals in public administration, urban planning, environmental management, and anyone interested in data visualisation and real-time data analysis. It is particularly suited for those who wish to leverage data to make informed decisions about urban infrastructure and environmental policies. The content is beginner-friendly, with no prior experience required in data analysis or visualisation.
