Description
In this highly visible role, you will utilize your mechanical design engineering skills to bring products to the market. Your responsibilities as Mechanical engineers is to design next generation of Mac products. Your responsibilities will span from technology development, concept generation to detailed design, analysis and testing through mass production ramp.
developing initial product layouts and new technology concepts
detailed design of mechanisms and sensors
support technology investigations and development
building prototypes to validate function, manufacturability, and robustness
perform FEA or coordinate FEA activities to evaluate and optimize design concepts
analyze data generated from builds and lab experiments
participate in design reviews to generate and receive constructive feedback
perform tolerance analyses to predict performance of mechanisms, sensors, and cosmetic
create specifications, detailed design and 2D documentation of all parts and assemblies
work with operations teams to evaluate and develop supply chains capable of
manufacturing new subsystems and products
interacting with vendors to develop manufacturing processes and tooling concepts
define testing requirements and equipment and analyze the data produced
support build activities including finding root cause for failures and solutions for issues that impede build progress
Minimum Qualifications
- BS and above in Mechanical engineering or 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or design validation preferably in the server or industrial computer industry.
- computer aided design (CAD) skills: 3D CAD experience required(NX preferred), 2D drafting and GD&T
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

- creative problem solving, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, excellent spatial reasoning skills, attention to detail
- fundamentals of engineering: strength of materials, material science, statics, heat transfer
- good knowledge in design skills: design for assembly/manufacturability, simple fixture design, design considerations for high volume manufacturing, understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), understanding of metrology (basic knowledge of measurement systems)
- broad range of materials and processes: metal machining basics, plastic injection/compression molding basics, designing with metals, designing with polymers, sheet metal design, material finishing basics
- familiarity with electrical engineering fundamentals and interconnect technologies is preferred
- design validation skills: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), large data set analysis and computer-aided data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and mechanical prototyping
- build support experience in factory
- proficiency with high volume manufacturing processes is desired strong consideration will be given to those with a proven track record in precision mechanism and sensor design
- Deep Knowledge of Server and Rack form factors, specifications and industry standards
- Experience designing Sheetmetal enclosure, plastic, die cast, extrusion and machined parts.
- Experienced with a variety of electronic interconnection types.
