Stakeholder consultation for the future of the 'local' EU Green Deal

The EU Green Deal (EGD) is a cornerstone in advancing climate neutrality by 2050 and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the EU. However, several targets directly involve Local and Regional Authorities (LRAs) for their actual implementation. As such, LRAs are forerunners in the implementation of EGD policies.

Localising the Agenda2030: the JRC and 10 pilot regions building a common framework for monitoring SDGs in EU regions

According to the UN Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN, 2015) 鈥渁n estimated 65% of the 169 targets behind the 17 SDGs will not be reached without engagement of local and regional governments鈥.

With only 15% of the Targets on track globally at the mid-point towards 2030 (SDGs Summit, 2023), it is even more crucial that all governmental and territorial levels step in, and contribute in a coordinated effort to the achievement of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.

KnowSDGs platform: the 2023 revamp!

Launched on 2018, the KnowSDGs Platform has greatly been contributing to the SDGs knowledge sharing and mainstreaming. Its tools, developed by the Joint Research Centre, are increasingly used by policymakers, stakeholders and researchers for better understanding how the 2030 Agenda works and might contribute to develop coordinated and coherent approaches for a successful implementation of the global Goals.

Research supporting the SDGs: where are we in the EU?

Scientific research has been acknowledged to play a pivotal role in achieving the United Nations鈥 2030 Agenda. Vice-versa, since its adoption, the 2030 Agenda has been reinvigorating the academic production on sustainable development.

EU Voluntary Review on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The EU reaffirms, by adopting the first EU Voluntary Review (EUVR), its commitment to the full and timely implementation of the 2030 Agenda, through its internal and external action, as a shared global roadmap. Building on the concept of 鈥榳hole-of-government鈥, the EU implements the 2030 Agenda in an integrated approach which places the SDGs at the core of EU policy.
