A prototype of the first EU-level 鈥渙nline knowledge reservoir鈥 of its kind was developed in the previous EU Horizon 2020 project EURAKNOS. This focused upon a specific type of multi-actor project called Thematic Networks. During the last two years, the follow-up project EUREKA has refined and evolved the platform into a first working version of the so-called EU FarmBook which aims to capture the output of all types of multi-actor project. The EU FarmBook 鈥渧ersion 1.0鈥 will be available in January 2022 for testing with a broad range of users across the EU.

In this 5th edition of the EUREKA newsletter we present a more detailed insight into the need for the EU FarmBook and its specific purpose as a tool for supporting the objectives of the EU Common Agricultural Policy.

We also provide an introduction to the different aspects of the process of making the EU FarmBook. What is the key to making the outputs of research projects findable? How do we create a sustainable data model for an online knowledge reservoir? How do we come to understand the needs of the potential users of such a knowledge reservoir?

If you want to get involved with making the EU FarmBook a reality by contributing your project鈥檚 outputs, please contact the EUREKA project at:

Stepping up to the challenge of knowledge-intensive farming and forestry
Times are changing. Faced with many new challenges, but also new opportunities, farmers and foresters require new ideas and approaches, new skills and information and new solutions.
Good metadata is key to making Knowledge Objects findable
Have you ever wondered how it is possible that search engines like Google are able to trace so many webpages on your subject in such a short time? The answer involves metadata.
The creation of a data model for the EU FarmBook
A new conference paper from EUREKA explains the process of creating a sustainable data model for the EU FarmBook 鈥 a knowledge database that gathers all research results from EU projects related to agriculture, forestry and rural development.
Understand the needs of people in the agricultural sector - see this webinar!
鈥楶ersonas鈥 have been used in business marketing for many years, but received little attention in agriculture. In July, three representatives from the EUREKA project held a webinar to discuss the method of creating personas to help connect with users and understand the needs of the people that will use products or services important in the agricultural sector.

On 15th September project coordinator, Dr Pieter Spanoghe, was invited to present a test-version of the EU FarmBook to the 锘縎CAR-AKIS Strategic Working Group (SWG).

EUREKA at the 2nd Integrated Food Ontology Workshop
The work that has been undertaken in the EUREKA project on the creation of a data model for the Knowledge Objects that will be stored in the pilot EU FarmBook database was presented in the 2nd Integrated Food Ontology Workshop (IFOW).
December 2nd 2021 at the annual meeting of the Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services (GFRAS), NAK (The Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture) introduced the concept of the "EU FarmBook" to 115 participants from all over the world.
