With this core group of energy leaders from the world’s most influential countries, MI-2 offered a unique opportunity to share success stories, enhance collaboration, and identify new solutions to help make significant progress in achieving domestic targets and furthering ambition.
MI-2 was co-located with the eighth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8). While MI focuses on breakthrough R&D for the new technologies of tomorrow, the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) focuses on scaling the deployment of technologies and solutions that are available today. Together, MI and CEM afford the world’s leading nations a robust platform for accelerating clean energy innovation and facilitating its uptake by a global market.
Agenda
In addition to closed-door working sessions for ministers and other heads of delegation, MI-2/CEM8 included a public-private action day with prominent speakers and thematic panel discussions; roundtable discussions with ministers, clean energy business leaders, experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders; and a series of side events, forums, and workshops. Ministers and other leaders announced new and ambitious MI and CEM efforts to accelerate clean energy innovation and deployment. The full agenda is available here.
Public-private roundtable discussions provided an opportunity for ministers, global business leaders, and other invited experts to bring their knowledge and perspective on the importance of public investment for innovation, and the ways that the public and private sectors can engage more productively.
MI-2/CEM8 featured a major Technology Exhibition with companies from around the world demonstrating their innovative clean energy technologies, products, and business models. The public exhibition showcased startups working to drive change in the clean energy sector and the worldwide economy in the years and decades to come.
MI-2/CEM8 also featured a new Innovation Theater event to showcase potentially game-changing clean energy innovations and inspirations from China and around the world. Modeled after “TED Talks” style events, the Innovation Theater featured innovators, scientists, and entrepreneurs presenting on emerging clean energy topics in front of clean energy professionals, financiers, and global and Chinese media.
Side events organized by partner organizations focused on topics such as clean energy investment, energy efficiency, and the economic transition to clean energy.
