LaBeach was born in Kingston, Jamaica where he attended St. Georges College. He was an outstanding varsity athlete at Morgan from 1950 to 1954. Track was his specialty as he followed in the footsteps of his two famous brothers, Lloyd and Sam, both Olympic performers. He was a member of the A.A.U. Championship 4 by 100 relay in 1954, Baltimore So. Atlantic Track Meet, first in 100 yards and 1952 member of the Jamaican Olympic team. In 1953, he received a silver medal in the 100 meters, Central American Games; gold medal in 4 by 100 meters and a bronze medal in the 200 meters.

From 1950 to 1954 he was a member of the Morgan State track team's 4 by 100 and 880 relays; a member of the championship teams at Knights of Columbus, Millrose Games, Penn Relays 1951-52 and second to the great Art Bragg in several 100 and 200 meter races.

In 1952 he represented the Jamaican Olympic team at Helsinki, Finland and was a semi-finalist in the 100 meters. He participated in Scotland, France, Sweden in World Games England and placed third to Olympic champion (Lindy Remigino, U.S.A. and McDonald Bailey) at 120 yards.

Member, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and recognized for outstanding contribution to Progress Task Force on Youth Motivation; Who's who in Finance Industry, 1975-76; Vice President, New York Varsity "M" Club; Organizer, Varsity "M" Club Fund-raising activities, 1960-61; Co-Chairman of the Black Christian Caucus at Riverside Church, N.Y. Byron is presently Direct Account Specialist, Grocery Marketing Division of the Nestle' Company.
