Carmie "Pete" Pompey is a graduate of Douglass High School in Baltimore. "Pete, as he is fondly called by his friends, enrolled in Morgan in 1959.
He was considered to be one of Morgan's greatest quarterbacks. he was selected to the second team All-CIAA in 1961. He was also the second leading passer and the first in touchdowns thrown in the Conference.
in 1962 "Pete" was elected to the first team by the Pittsburgh Courier All-American; the leading vote-getter in his selection to the first team All-CIAA and was chosen co-captain of that team. This was Coach Banks' first championship team at Morgan with a record of 8 wins and 1 defeat.
In addition, he was first in number of touchdown passes thrown, first in number of completions and held the record for one game passing yardage until 1966, with a total of 297 yards and three touchdowns in the Morgan State vs. Howard University game (1962).
"Pete", who was called "Mr. Quarterback", was a superb athlete with outstanding potential. Upon his graduation, "Pete" was drafted by the New York Jets.
"Pete" also ran track for one year. He is a member of Iota Phi Theta fraternity, the Physical Education Club, the Outstanding Secondary Educators of America, and was on the Dean's List while a student at Morgan.
"Pete" is a member of the "M" Club. He was employed in the Baltimore City Public Schools as a coach at Edmondson High School, where he was instrumental in directing many outstanding athletes to Morgan.
