Cecil Melvin Cooper Cecil Cooper was a native Baltimorean who graduated from Douglass High School. He enrolled in Morgan in 1951 and graduated in 1955.

Cecil was a member of Morgan’s first Swimming Team when the pool first opened. He was “Mr. Everything” under Coach Brooks. He had the honor to be selected as co-captain of the 1952-1953 and the 1953-1954 teams. In addition, Cecil was the first Morganite to win the celebrated CIAA Outstanding Swimmers’ Award in 1954.

Cecil was the anchorman on Morgan’s 400 yard Freestyle relay team, which won Morgan’s first CIAA Championship. Cecil was also an excellent three-meter diving champion, for which he also won the CIAA Championship.

Cecil was a very popular fellow on Morgan’s campus. He was a good student and was dedicated to the swimming team, where he was looked upon as a leader and sparkplug which drove his teams to put out all they had, and more, in order to become winners. He never let a loss consume him or his teammates. He used this to inspire them to come back and win the next contest.

Cecil was an active member of the “M” Club. He was an administrator in the Baltimore County School System, where he is was respected for his organizing abilities.
