Charles “Bo” Brightful is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Douglass High School, where he excelled in basketball.
“Bo” entered Morgan State in September, in 1955, where he continued his basketball prowess. “Bo” was All-CIAA in both 1956 and 1957. He was recognized as one of Morgan’s greatest jump-shot artists. He showed no weakness as a one-man offense. “Bo’ was always all over the court on all plays and was deadly under the boards. He was an agile and sharp-witted player who thrived on team play. He was adept at guard and center positions alike.
“Bo” was unstoppable inside the foul line, a flashy floor man who sizzled on the fast break., had good speed and great hands, and was a first-rate ball handler who liked to steal passes.
“Bo” played a big role in helping Morgan to continue it’s Basketball program, “bo’ was honored by being named captain of the basketball team.
After graduating from Morgan, “Bo” was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets of the Eastern League. He played professionally for two years.
Charles Brightful belongs to the Varsity “M” Club and serves on its Executive Committee. He is also president of the Baltimore Old Timers and Vice-President of the National Old Timers.
Charles is currently employed as the Supervisor of Recreation at the Patuxent Institute in Jessup, Maryland. He is married to the former Doris Umphery and the have two lovely children, Deborah Marie and Chet Edward Brightful.
Currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland.
