Charles R. Kelly, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, attended Northeast High School and matriculated to Morgan State University in 1951 and participated on the swimming team from 1953 to 1955.
Charles Kelly was one of the first members of the Morgan State University swimming team, the “Morgan Natatores.” During the first two years of competition, during which the Morgan Natatores were undefeated, Charles “Jelly Bellie” Kelly swam the 50 yard and 100 yard races, and served as lead off for the 400 yard relay team.
