Cornell Gowdy’s accomplished NFL career as both a professional football player and Scout, began in 1986 as a Cornerback with the Dallas Cowboys under legendary Hall of Fame Coach, Tom Landry. The following year, Gowdy joined the Pittsburgh Steelers as a Defensive Back under four time Super Bowl winning Head Coach and Hall of Famer, Chuck Noll. Hall of Fame Coach, Tony Dungy served as Gowdy’s Defensive Coordinator and position coach, where he started at Strong Safety during the 1988 season. Following two seasons with the Steelers, Gowdy became a Regional Scout for the National Football Scouting (NFS) Combine Service, honing his ability to identify and evaluate talent at every position. His prowess at assessing and communicating prospective players for scheme fit, earned Gowdy a position as Area Scout with the New
Orleans Saints, working for six years under the Mike Ditka and Jim Haslett regimes. He played an integral part in evaluating Draft eligible players that would become the nucleus for the Saints’ first playoff victory in team history. Following his tenure with the Saints, Gowdy spent the next six years as an Area Scout for the Kansas City Chiefs, serving under longtime General Manager Carl Peterson, with Dick Vermeil and Herman Edwards as Head Coaches.
Beginning in 2009, Gowdy spent five years as Writer and Draft Analyst with DraftNasty, working alongside ESPN Draft Analyst and former NFL Defensive Back, Corey Chavous. Gowdy also served as a Pro Scout with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. Gowdy’s expertise and experience culminated in his five-year tenure with the NFL’s League Office for the Regional Combines, where he was the featured Scout on the Emmy nominated documentary series, Undrafted, during its 2014 debut and subsequent 2015 seasons. Gowdy is a native Washingtonian. He is creative, dedicated and results-driven with a passion for football and helping young athletes discover and reach their peak potential.
